#2 bugged me too. I speak bits of three other languages, and I'm not sure I'd recognize the verb 'kneel' in any of them.
Of course, I'm not sure Thor ever explained how come Thor and the Americans could understand each other. Maybe there's an automatic translation circuit hidden in those fancy Asgardian helmets...?
It must be something from comic-canon that I've picked up from fanfic or something, but I get the impression there is something called the "Allspeak" which is a hand-wavey-univeral-translator-stargate/tardis-translates kind of deal.
