Maybe the fact that the show bothered to point out the suckiness of Sam's visions vs. the other powers we've seen means they are trying to make a point of difference, and there is more to it than we know?

Hm. I would almost buy that except it seemed more like they were saying ooh, Sam's powers make him miserable than ooh, Sam's powers are DIFFERENT. But I live in hope.

Although, it was f-locked, so if I find out who that is I will be having words with them about f-locking my journal and why I do it. ):( Not that there was anything in there terribly private, but...it's the principle of the thing.
