Sukkah story

We've been enjoying our sukkah a lot this year!  We almost didn't have one, though and here is the story:

Jeff had a couple of friends over to help put up our sukkah.  We had a kit that only takes a few hours to put up, so they were going to make a morning of it, have ribs for lunch, and get on with the day.  Minor problem: when they pulled it down in the garage, they saw it was infested with carpenter ants and mildew!  (It was made of particle board, which apparently doesn't really last.)  There didn't seem to be time to completely design and build a new sukkah.  After a while, we decided some of the panels were salvageable and that it "wouldn't take too long" to go to Home Depot and buy the materials to replace the worst panels.

I don't know why I was surprised when the three engineers came back from Home Depot with a completely new and ambitious design.

I was doing some work, so I didn't pay much attention to how the new sukkah was coming until I finished my work and went out to take a look.  They had the frames of two walls up, and nothing was vertical or horizontal!  Our yard isn't really level, but this was ridiculous.

Eventually we got it together, and it's actually really sturdy (although the cross-beams are still cock-eyed).  From conception to finish: three hours.  It's a beautiful sukkah.  At night the candlelight shines through the canvas.
