★ I’ve ‘had’ to buy myself a new mobile phone. I hate replacing technology before it’s broken but I’ve taken the easy way out in this case. The WA Government has bought out a WA Safe app for smart phones to make contact tracing easier.
Every time we go into somewhere like a library, coffee shop, hair dresser, church, exercise class etc we have to register as having been there. With the app we only have to scan the notification with our phone. Without the app we have to fill in a paper record.
My prior phone was too old for the app to download. I hate getting a new phone, it’s worse than getting a new computer complete with new operating system. I got it on Friday and I’m still trying to come to grips with it.
I think that a lot of people in other countries would kick up about our form of contact tracing but so far, our West Australian Government has kept us safe.
★ Last Wednesday was our NS Christmas Lunch. This year we went via a bus down to Dwellingup which is about 110km from Perth. Maybe my expectations were too high as Dwellingup is a small country town but the meal was crap. While doing the booking we had to put in any dietary requirements so I requested a vegetarian meal. When the meals started being bought out the meat eaters got two slices of meat, a scoop of a frozen vegetable mix, three small baked potatoes, a slither of baked pumpkin and a scoop of broccoli cheese. When my vegetarian meal was delivered, I got exactly the same except it was minus the two slices of meat.

★ A week or so ago I was invited to a Seniors Leadership Program workshop. I assume that I got invited because I do the National Seniors newsletter for our area and that they must have been having trouble getting the numbers. Because truth told, when it comes to being a leader in the Seniors network, I’m so low down on the totem pole that I’m sitting on the curb with my feet in the gutter. It was a torturous way to spend a day, but at least the food was good and I got proper vegetarian. When at something like that you can’t just roll over and play dead, you have to at least act like you’re intelligent.
★ My suburb has a vibrant community on facebook and there has been a lot of encouragement for people to put Christmas decorations on the tree that our council has planted on everyone’s verge. It’s now quite nice driving around the streets. Here is my very token effort.
★ A couple of days ago I had a practice run at making Spiced Lebkuchen. It was quite a bit of trouble and for my first attempt they turned out OK. I’ll probably make them again as part of my Christmas baking as they tasted really nice.
