While on the way home from work & stopping at Whole Foods to get something to eat...I thought, "If I recycle both paper and plastic, which should I ask for at the checkout to reduce my environmental footprint?" And then, "Duh Jenny - bring your own reusable bag!".
I realized I was asking the wrong question. And then I was enlightened (sort of).

Short answer: Environmental footprint is the negative imact our lifestyles can have on the rest of the ecosystem.

I think that's an awesome lenten goal!!
Another thing is when you only buy 1 or 2 items and they can be held / put in a pocket or your purse, don't get a bag from the cashier. That's my MO when buying stuff like a few books, or a snack from the convenience store.

The reusable oil misters sound really nice. Plus then you know exactly what you're putting in your food.
CFL's are actually recyclable - Home Depot accepts them for recycling.
Since you live in Dallas city & you're in a house, they should have Thursday plastic & aluminum recycling curbside pickup - just put all plastic & aluminum in one of those blue bags, and you can get the bags free at Dallas public library branches. We do that at my work; unfortunately since I live in an apartment the City does not pick up my recycling.
