I got into my chem classes for this summer. I'm not sure whether to be glad or sad. It's going to be a lot of work. But I still think I'm going to be a chem major instead of biochem. Anyway, here are pictures of food, as promised.
Asparagus and Smoked Salmon Souffles:
The smaller one, which rose much better than the bigger one.
A few days later, my first attempt at (mexican! thanks Kitty!) chocolate souffles:
I forgot to put in a bit of vanilla extract, so there was something that was missing to them. Oh well, they were eaten with vanilla ice cream, so it worked.
Asparagus and lion's mane mushroom risotto:
Second attempt at chocolate souffles (made for Luis' birthday):
Much more successful. Added some sugar when whipping the egg whites and added vanilla to the batter. Possibly too sweet?
Lentil Soup:
Cooked up a sofrito of 1 chopped medium onion, 2 cloves of garlic, and 2 chopped medium carrots. Added 1 chopped medium/large tomato. Added a sprig of thyme and 2 bay leaves. Cooked for a few minutes till everything smelled really good. Added about three cups of homemade roasted vegetable broth, and an equal amount of chicken broth (from boullion...was too lazy to make my own last week), and dumped in 1 smoked ham hock. Cooked it for about an hour, checking on it periodically to add water so the ham hock was completely covered. Then, after making sure the ham hock was tender, added 1 cup of rinsed brown lentils. Cooked for about half an hour, then chopped the meat off the ham hock, added that to the soup, and added 1 chopped potato. Added about two or three handfuls of rotini noodles. Cooked for another ten or fifteen minutes, and then it was all done. It was a really good soup. I wouldn't add the potato next time though. Or at least, I would blanch it first. It thickened everything up a lot.
I made mac and cheese the other night. I used about 3/4 lb of elbow macaroni, and about an equivalent amount of cheese (a mixture of colby and some leftover parmasan I had), and sprinkled garlic panko bread crumbs on top. It was sooooo good. I invited Kira over to have some and this is what resulted:
10:48:27 PM Kira: cani come say hi?
10:48:35 PM Me: if you want
10:48:41 PM Me: mac and cheese is done
10:49:00 PM Kira: screw the food. ha ha i just watn tos e eyou (but i wont say no to a taste of your orgasmicly good food)
10:50:25 PM Me: ah
10:50:30 PM Kira: yay coming to say hi
10:50:38 PM Me: I need a guy who can appreciate my orgasmically good food
10:50:45 PM Kira: ha ha
10:50:49 PM Kira: be down in a second
She arrived, with this:
And now, it's on our wall. The boys saw it the next day, and Mike put this up when he was roasting some chicken.
My house is great. <3
