Baby Goldfish!

Isn't he cute? Don't you want to take him home and love him? I know you do!

I have this lovely specimen and oh, at least 30 of his siblings that need to find new homes. My adult fish were very, very happy this spring and summer. :) If you or anyone you know wants a couple goldfish please let me know. You can come to the house and pick out your favorites! I would really rather not give these guys to a pet store because they will almost certainly be used as feeder fish. :(

This particular fish is pictured in a standard size white wine glass for size reference, he is a bit smaller than most of his siblings. The babies range from less than an inch to about 3.5 inches (not including tail). They are all comet goldfish. I have babies in all the standard colors (gold, sarasa (red and white), shubunkin (calico)) but most are still black. Goldfish are born black and come into their color as they age, they will continue to change color throughout their lives but generally don't alter too much once they are an "adult" size. One of their parents was purchased because he was still all black even though he had reached breeding age (4 or 5 years old) which is very, very rare. So there is a *chance* that some of these babies will stay black for a long time (maybe forever, but the parent has now started to get his color). Watching the babies come into their color is a great deal of fun. The goldfish in the picture is still transitioning from black to gold, he may keep his stylish black markings or he may trade them in for something else.

Goldfish are easy and inexpensive to keep! They are very sociable with each other and with their humans! They are beautiful, fun, and excellent for your blood pressure! This species overwinters in even a small outdoor pond very well or they would be happy inside in a 10 gallon tank or larger (no "goldfish" bowls!). They need a filter but not a heater. If well cared for these fish will get big, like 10" big but that will take many, many years. They are not bonsai, they will not stay small if you keep them in a small bowl.
