Shows in Vegas?

Sep 28, 2007 23:10

I'll be in Vegas for a weekend in October and I'd like to catch a couple shows. I've never seen a live Cirque performance (or watched an entire recorded show for that matter) and I'd like to see one of the Vegas only Cirque shows but the questions is which one (or two)?? I am currently leaning toward O and/or Zumanity but since I know nothing ( Read more... )

VEGAS!

So, as far as Cirque goes, it really depends on what you want.

If you want the baseline Cirque experience, O or Mystere are the best bet. Zumanity is *amazing*, but it is a cabaret show, and honestly, if you were to see only one Cirque show, I'd suggest going for one of their more epic shows like the first two I mentioned.
Love, the Cirque show based on Beatles songs, has enraptured everyone I know that has gone to see it. All the theater geeks I knew at MODE said it was *THE* best show Cirque had ever done. They wouldn't shut up about it. I am utterly determined to get back to Vegas as soon as I can so as not to miss it. It is also supposed to have the epic feel of O and Mystere, but because of the focus on the Beatles, I suspect interest would have something to do with your feelings about the Beatles.

For non Cirque shows, we went to see Fashionistas, which was fun. I've yet to see an old fashioned show-girl type show. Every time I go I swear I'll do it, but then I get hung up on the cost and fail to.

If you head to the half-priced ticket place (look for the giant Coke bottle next to MGM Grand, across the street from New York New York) relatively early-ish in the day you can get a pretty good selection of shows for cheap. They do have Cirque shows, but I'm not totally sure how that works - they are all on a separate reader board from the other shows. Try to have a show guide in hand when you head over there so you can look stuff up as it comes up in the reader board. You'll see a dozen show guides until you get there, at which time there will be none for blocks.

Where are you staying and how much time will you have to play around? I could probably help you figure out other fun things, too.
I'll just live vicariously through you since it's going to be a while before I get to go back. :)

Oh - and best place to sit for Cirque shows -

Love - I hear there really aren't any seats that are too bad. I think there may be obstructed seats, but those would be clearly labeled as such. Otherwise, the design of the theater is supposed to be awesome.

Mystere - I'd suggest something fairly centralized to the stage, but I wouldn't worry as much about how close you are. I think it'd be unfortunate to be too far off to one side or the other.

Zumanity - again I'd suggest something fairly centralized. If you are going with Scot, ABSOLUTELY get one of the love seats. They ruled. (note - skip the food unless you just really, really want that to be part of the experience.) They do interact with the audience a fair amount, so thats something to keep in mind. Personally, i'd give up my first born child to have been in the front seat for that show. I'll explain in detail if you don't wind up seeing it. ;)

I wasn't even considering Love but I think you and Deirdre might have sold me!

I sat in the front row at Zumanity! It was awesome. Sadly, not in the couch, but on the seats next to it.

I feel almost self-conscious that this almost sounds like I'm steering you away from Zumanity. I really really really am not. My point was simply that it isn't the "classic Cirque experience". Part of the magic of Cirque for a lot of people is the epic quality of the stories and breadth of the connections between acts. Zumanity is probably my personal favorite so far, but it is a very different animal from their other shows.
