Long Time; No See

Hi All!

Sorry it's been so long since I last updated.  No... I'm not dead.  I just haven't felt much like writing lately.  Of course, that's not to say that I haven't been busy.  So here's the updates!

I changed jobs at the very end of August.  I left the bank and now work for a safe company (no.. not that the bank was dangerous... it's a company that makes fire safes)  (ha ha that's my lame attempt at a joke).  I'm still on the phones doing customer service though.  I just have oodles of "fun"  helping people figure out why their safe won't work.  Uhhh... and I thought lawyers did stupid things when it came to signing home loans.  I've had some rather interesting calls regarding safes.  You wouldn't believe how many don't realize that an electronic safe requires batteries in order to work.  I spent all of September training for my new job.  Eight hours a day looking at the inside mechanics of a safe.  Oh, and there's about 50 or more models the company makes.  At least most of the calls tend to be fairly typical and I'm finally getting the hang of it.  I'm almost up to making my call quota for the day. (Unlike my other job they expect you to take a certain number of calls, around 80-90).  There's a few good things about my new job, which is why I switched in the first place.  I don't have to drive into downtown Rochester any more.  Yeah!  I'm just going to East Rochester, which lops 10 miles off my drive.  The downside...there is no easy way to get to East Rochester.  It's not just off the express way.  At least the parking's free.  Yeah!  That's $74 more in my pocket and one less monthly bill.  Unfortunatly since I come in at 9 am to work all the close spots are taken so I've gotta hoof it from the back 40.  That's just so goin' suck when it starts snowing.  The other good thing is I get to use my French.  They actually needed a French speaking phone rep.  Whoo hoo!  That makes my degree feel much more useful.  The only downside is French Canadian accents are a pain.  I haven't adjusted to them yet.

I can't complain.  The company is actually really nice.  Can you believe they still give all their employees a Thanksgiving turkey.  I think the one I have is about 15lbs.  The owners were actually outside handing them out.  It's still a privately held family company.  A few weeks ago, customer service had a team building event.  We basically went to happy hour at a local restaurant and played darts.  It was really a lot of fun and I got a free dinner.  For customer service week, we got a present every day and lunch.  The perks really off set all the tedium of being on the phone for 8 hours.  There's also a company gym with apool right at the factory and it's only$1.50 a week to join.  I can finally get back to exercising again.

In the middle of September (gosh that feels like such a long time ago)  I went to my first class reunion.  I was in shock when I got the invitation back in July.  We hadn't done one yet.  It's hard to believe I've been out of high school for 15 years and I have to say I don't miss it one bit!  I didn't like high school much. I have to say it was interesting to see how people had changed.  I found the guys harder to recognize than the girls.  Somethings never change though.  People still gravitate towards the groups they hung out with in H.S.  It was very evident at the party.  Not that I blame people; it's easy to go and talk to people you remember hanging out with, not so easy to talk to snobs who treated you like dirt.  However, people do change I'm happy to say.  I had some rather pleasant conversations with people who would have never spoken with me at the time.  I was surprised to hear one of my friends say that she was surprised I'd come, considering how much people picked on me in HS.  Well, my response was in 15 years I grew a back bone.  College does a lot for you .  I think the best moment had to be walking into the ladies room during the reunion.  I suddenly had this flash back to HS.  There was a small group of women hanging out by the sink.  Just like HS only without the smoke so thick you needed a lighthouse to find the  toilet.  I joked as I entered about it feeling like HS again and said at least they all weren't smoking and the one girl said, "Nope just pumping breast milk."   Wow... times have changed a bit.    Overall it was pretty fun and it was nice to see what happened to everyone, since I really didn't keep up with anyone from HS.

Well that's basically all the updates for now.  I'll try to update more often.  I promise!!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
