nihilistic_kid gave me a
CocoaBella box of chocolates for Valentines Day. It is the most delicious present I have ever received. Last year when we were walking past the store, I had told him that I always liked to look at the chocolates on display and try the free samples. The presentation of the chocolates in the store is beautiful. They are arranged like jewelry, each chocolate with an individual name card with name, ingredients and the country of origin.
Nick gave me a box of 18 chocolates, each of which is a gustatory delight. He got the "exotic" box for me, meaning these chocolates have unusual tastes like rosemary, olive oil and lavender. In order to thank him and show my appreciation I am going to write about each chocolate individually.
I started today with a chocolate from Italy. It is is a Maglio Stuffed Date. The description reads "Nuts and fruit stuffed date in dark chocolate." Having grown up loving Cadbury's Fruit and Nut bar, I thought this was a good place to start. I savored the small chocolate for as long as I could and 10 minutes later I am still licking my teeth trying to find any pieces that might be trapped. The bonbon consisted of a hazelnut stuffed inside a date, covered in thick dark chocolate. Often dates can taste too sweet, but this tasted dark like the the polish honey cakes we always buy at Christmas, the Pierniki Alpejski, especially like the ones with the
plum fillings. The hazelnut was creamy and added substance to the experience. The chocolate was wonderful. It tasted like pure cocoa powder. All in all, the chocolate was wintery and warming, and made me think of tangled branches and cozy fires.
Thank you, Mamatas.
