hello kitty vs. barbie: the cat has nails, but the lady has heels

"“Hello Kitty is edgier, and Barbie is more sophisticated.”--- made me laugh. i lived in japan and was swiftly cured of my hello kitty love. she is ubiquitous, mild and her vacant mouth-less stare soon becomes representative of the fact that japanese women have almost no political voice.

on the other hand, barbie is sophisticated is hilarious, too. her main function in preteen's lives is to a) emphasize impossible bodytypes b) sell accessories and c) be a prop in young girls burgeoning sexual play.
