And that means school starts. Not that it didn't go on for eight weeks during the summer, but those eight weeks are extremely different. This marks the first day of the standard 180 days of school. There are MCAS scores to share with staff and students. There are pre-assessments to give. Homework to assign. A room to decorate. Some of which is done, but as is always the case, never enough. Never as much as I wanted to get done at least.

I proudly emptied some bookshelves during staff week and the curriculum is going to go to the curriculum room. And the other ELA teacher and I have discussed books we want to buy.

I have a PEEEEENK three hole punch on my desk. I have classroom notes, a wall of nerds, a book board and a homework log. I have swept. I have placed. I have done a bunch. and it's never enough.

I am going to be doing a morning read aloud of Peter Pan! This makes me stupidly excited. A friend of the family gave me a copy of Peter Pan when I was a wee little thing, and it is one of my favorite books. I didn't see Disney's Peter Pan until it was re-released in the theatres sometime when i was in college. I was so horrified that I almost had to leave. It's god awful. But the book? Oh, man, the book is just so. very. good. so. very. very. good.

I'm going to be reading woman warrior with one group, lord of the flies with another, hamlet with a third, and parts of lone ranger and tonto fistfight in heaven with the fourth. I'm fairly certain I'm going to get to run my elective of choice: Writing A Novel in A Quarter. This means I get to run a writing elective two days a week! I am giddy with the thought of this. Positively giddy!

I know how I do hamlet and lone ranger & tonto fistfight in heaven. I have never taught lord of the flies or woman warrior. so two books i can do in my sleep, and two books that i'll learn to teach with my students. eeeee! i love september!

also, i have green fingernails, green toenails and newly shaped eyebrows. la la la!

school, wrinkly knees, elephants are rockstars, writing, giddy with glee, i am such a femme sometimes, books
