random food thought

Aug 16, 2005 22:30

my sisters and i grew up eating one of my favorite dishes, affectionately known by the family as a "chicken slime", which consists of chicken, carrots, some can of soup (though frequently not a cream one), whatever else mum tossed in, cheese, and bread crumbs on top. Terri - who did not grow up with this - is somewhat suspicious when i yearn for a good old fashioned chicken slime.

She had to work until some obscene hour (8:30pm) today and asked if i would dish her up some of what we had last night for dinner. We had rice and lentils and poached chicken and raisins with random curry blend and various other spices then tossed with coconut milk. Upon stirring it up it becomes, well, slimy. Sort of too thick to be stew but all glommed together, not unlike library paste. It's delicious. (Just ask T.) But it struck me as i smooshed some into a bowl for re-heating that this is my chicken slime, so while I might crave my mum's, it's nice to have a chicken slime that T eats as do the rest of the inhabitants of the household. Our smallest cat, Buglet, was allllll over it! Her dragon breath is going to be extra spicy tonight.

Anyway, those were my musings for the evening. Brought on, no doubt, by flonase, sleepiness and a general sense of absurdity.
