Day 20 - A pairing you like, but don't like what canon did/is doing with them
Grace and Thunder
Individually, they were pretty cool. Thunder was the Outsiders' awkward turtle, which is always an interesting addition in a genre where every single person is designed after a supermodel or movie actor.
Grace I fell in love with after she was shown sloughing through a sewer, saying something along the lines of "We need an Amazon to crawl through forty feet of effluent pipe. Call Grace. She likes doing stuff like that."
Since our stereotypical Themyscirian is Wonder Woman, I liked that there was an Amazon who wasn't willowy and elegant, and refused to get her hands dirty.
So since Themyscira is the island of women, fanon dictates that it's a floating island of lesbians. Canon does mention that warriors regularly marry gods or heroes who best them in combat, but making Grace an Amazon instead of a super-strong meta was short-hand for 'all about the fish tacos'.
She has a few boyfriends, but when Anissa makes a running leap into her arms, you figure she's got no problem scoring with the ladies.
Thunder, on the other hand, hadn't shown any proof of swinging that way, until we see her standing outside of Grace's door, looking forlorn.
Annnddd that's it for buildup. Next chapter, they've hooked up. Thunder says she's not sure if she's really gay, or just into Grace. They have a brief moment to discuss sexual orientation, and now they're boring. I don't get to see Grace be the only Amazon you can call for garbage removal, and Thunder is just another DC female. I don't think anyone remembers she was anything except one-half of DC's hot lesbian couple.
