It's on the subject of LGBT activist Bayard Rustin's namesake, travel writer Bayard Taylor - fellow Pennsylvanian and author of America's (possibly) first gay novel, published in 1870, on which I wrote The Annotated Joseph and His Friend (Lethe Press, 2018).

No joke, as a kid I wished I could be some sort of “professor of gay,” like the kind of person who gets interviewed on gay subjects, just a recognized queer authority. My friends: that dream come true!
