Yako had a very fine sense of taste. Biologically, this meant that her sense of smell was utterly superb; so superb that she could easily smell the acrid odor of burning food. In fact, this was what woke her.

It was a horrible way to be woken, especially for Yako.

She sat bolt upright, forgetting the fact that she was not, in fact, at home as an all too familiar panic began to set in. Oh God, she mentally whimpered. Her mother must be attempting to make breakfast. As there were no sirens or explosions, she must just be getting started. Feeling small spark of hope light in her chest, Yako quickly jumped out of bed. She might be able to stop her mother before she caused another incident with the bomb squad and waste disposal committee ( ... )

Ladon looked up from his breakfast to find some frazzled looking girl standing in his kitchen in her pajamas and staring at him.

"You sleep walkin', kid?" he asked. "'Cuz I ain't your mom."

Yako palmed her face, mortified. "I see that now. Sorry. I just uh..." She gestured towards him. "Sort of...yeah. Sorry."

Coughing slightly, she offered a tremulous smile. "Anyways, um...good morning. Did you intentionally burn your food or..?" Do you just suck at cooking? she finished to herself. If she had to deal with another version of her mom, here...

"Matter of fact, I do." And just for that, he broke a piece off one of the blackened pancakes he already had on a plate, popping it in his mouth. "Got a problem?"

"Oh. no, just making sure. Um..." She shifted. "Next time, could you crack a window beforehand? This...well, this might happen again." She gestured to herself sheepishly. "Kind of instinct."

"Don't see how that's my problem." He rolls his eyes, but relents. "Yeah, fine, I'll open a window. Any luck, won't be here for 'nother meal."

"Well unless you want me bursting in here every morning calling you Mom..." Yako shrugged. "Thank you. And good luck with that, um..." Would it be rude to call him Mr. Fourth Floor?

"So long as you're wearin' somethin' when you do it, kid, don't care." He tapped some of the ashes from his cigarette into the sink, like the classy, classy guy that he is.

"Ladon Ceto."

Yako's shoulders stiffened and she tried not to huff or pout. not that she wasn't just making an absolutely fabulous first impression. "Nice to meet you," she said with a bow. "I'm Katsuragi Yako."

Huffy dames were the norm for Ladon, so he paid her stiffness no mind. The name caught his attention, though, as he finished plating his food and turned the griddle off. "S'one helluva mouthful. You got a nickname or should I just call you 'kid?'"

Yako considered it for a moment. Kid wouldn't be so bad; she'd been called brat, slug, slave number one, Miss Detective, and monster, among other things, after all. "That or just my given name is fine, I guess." A little...informal, since they just met, but if they were going to live in the same house for any length of time it shouldn't matter much.

He busily drowned his burnt pancakes in syrup as she debated. He was breaking off a piece when she replied and he shrugged. "Kid it is, then."

Especially since he wasn't sure what part of "katsuragiyako" was her given name. He sectioned off a piece of his pancakes with his fork, mopped up as much syrup as he could, then popped it in his mouth.

"Do you have a preference for what I call you?" she wanted to know. He didn't seem like a very outgoing and cuddly person, so his first name was probably out. She had no idea why he liked burnt pancakes either; granted, they were still edible and probably weren't chock full of rocksalt, washers, and windex like the ones her mother made.

"Ladon's fine." No windex here, just yummy calcified flour and egg and milk. Ladon had taken to making pancakes when he found out how quickly the mix would burn compared to things like chicken and pork. Though burnt beef was certainly a nostalgic meal-- he could remember sharing burnt cow carcasses with his clutch.

Yako was missing out on the charcoal cuisine. Really.

"Okay; surnames, got it. Have you met anybody else in the house yet?" She had already embarrassed herself, so Yako saw no problem with standing there in her pajamas. And really, she could deal with burnt food; on some level the flavor still had an appeal, like smoke-grilled meat. She was just still stuck in her half asleep mindset.

He was going to correct her that his surname was Ceto, but... Well. This girl seemed a little on the ding-y side, anyway. He wasn't going to press it. "Maybe. Dunno. Been mostly outside, lookin' for a way out. Might've run into 'em on the street. Guess I'll find out if I ain't outta here soon."

He did feel a little awkward eating pancakes while she just kind of stood there. "Can make a few unburnt ones, you want any."
