Who: N and Kitten
What: Friendship and pokemon and glitter.
Where: N's place of solace.
When: Monday
Warnings: Preciousness

It's like waking up, really, like leaving a nightmare, except there's no gasp and there's no scream, there's just a steady ascent upwards, like pressing her face to gel; cool and cleansing. Or perhaps that's just the grass ( Read more... )

"Yes, hello." N's voice is distant, as he's standing among the trees a ways off, but he comes closer as he hears her voice.

"You're awake now? I hope you're feeling better." Flying behind him are a group of Swoobat. "These are some of my friends. Their ultrasonic waves will cheer you up." Swoobat waves make anyone feel better. Well, if N asks them to transmit positive waves, rather than the more harmful kind.

"Musharna was looking after you while you slept." He gestures toward another Pokemon behind her, floating not too far away. N had called her in to eat all Kitten's bad dreams. He'd taken great care that she would be as comfortable as possible. He wasn't used to looking after humans, so he didn't want to make a mistake. Pokémon were his area of expertise.

Kitten stares at the pokemon. She's only ever seen these creatures in N's company, the way things are now, it's almost as if they're something unique to the boy himself. The benevolent caretaker of a menagerie of fantastical alien beings.

"Waves... that's very new agey, I'm sure it's true..." It made exactly as much sense as what any other guru might have to say about energy and crystals and whatever else they liked to gab about on daytime talk shows. Her eyes follow the flutter of the Swoobats. They're kind of cute and she is more than happy to pet one of their fuzzy manes when it lands on her shoulder.

"I've had the whole spa treatment."

"Swoobat communicate through soundwaves. Most people can't hear them, but they can improve your mood even though you cannot hear. They're Psychic Pokémon. As is Musharna. She can eat your nightmares so you'll sleep well."

All the Pokémon are friendly, as N has cleared Kitten's presence here. With an unauthorized human, they would not be. "Oh, and Leavanny made you a scarf, but she's gone to look after some of the children." He hands over a very delicate scarf that he's been carrying. It's made of leaves, flowers, and plant fibers. It seems to shine, as if with dewdrops. "She was worried about you."

"Pokemon..." Kitten repeats that thoughtfully. The word really doesn't mean anything to her, but she can deduce that these creatures are pokemon, and that some of them have powers. It's very sci-fi by her estimation and she loves it, pressing a kiss on a Swoobat's heart-shaped nose. "Very impressive, darlings, I'd have never imagined."

Her attention is drawn back upwards to N as he mentions the little Leavanny. "Oh, we had her playing Brad the other night!" Kitten is more than happy to focus on these insignificant little details, it keeps her mind from drifting back over the recent nightmares: first those beasts and then those hallucinations. Hiding out here with the pokemon seems the perfect escapism to her.

"That's so sweet, and so beautiful! Sonia Rykiel wouldn't know what hit her. But what was that about children?"

"I live here with many of my friends. They're all very talented. It's strange, I didn't expect to find them here. They're from home, and some of them I haven't seen in a while. I grew up with Pokémon." He smiles at the Swoobats as they flutter around. Pokémon were always his best and dearest friends.

"That's right, she enjoyed the folk dancing very much. I'm glad you like the scarf. She'll be happy to hear that you do. She loves to make clothes."

He nods, earnestly. "Yes, the young Pokémon who've recently hatched, and the kitten who's from this world. Leavanny's one of the ones who looks after them."

Ah, not human children. She had been vaguely worried for a moment. She had a thing about children. She was a nurturer at the heart of it and since she'd never be able to do that mystical giving birth thing--(something she lamented only with Charlie, there was no one else she had ever been close enough to make such a confession to)--she took it upon herself to love upon any children that crossed her path. Still, the fact remained that she wanted desperately to give someone what she had lacked, make something productive out of her ruinous life as a cross-dressing prostitute who had once been arrested for suspected terrorism.

"A whole nursery of little pokemon," she smiles fondly, arranging her shiny new scarf around her neck happily. It certainly makes her feel better for the time being, she'll be even better once she's had a shower and a fresh set of clothes and put her makeup back on properly. "Goodness, and Whiskers wouldn't let us have so much as a stray cat."

"Yes, there are a few of them. Pokémon don't lay eggs very often, especially not in a strange place, but there have been some since I came here. Litwick and Leavanny are looking after them." He sits in the grass near her. He feels more content now that he doesn't believe humans are trying to kill his Pokémon. He knows he should go out and try to meet more people, learn more things, but sometimes it feels better to stay here, where he knows it's safe, where his friends are.

"The cat's name is Stripes. Who is Whiskers?"

Kitten flaps a hand around.

"My foster mother, my darling Hairy Arse Braden, I did hate her so." She says this lightly, easily, never had any trouble over-sharing. And she certainly had no problem complaining about Whiskers the old bitch had stolen from her for years.

"She wasn't nearly as caring as a lovely Leavanny, but never fear, daring Kitten has learned from her lack."

"Leavanny does like to take care of everyone. I never had a mother. There were Anthea and Concordia, who looked after me, and they were kind to me, but they weren't my mother. I wonder who she was." He looks thoughtful for a moment before moving on.

"She should have allowed you to keep animals if you wished. The bond between humans and animals is a wonderful thing. They are not quite like Pokémon, but in some ways, they are similar."

Kitten is impressed that he can move over it so quickly, the question of who his mother was. She wonders if it's a sad thing, that he doesn't have that beautiful fairytale figure to long for. Or if it's better that way because he's not left like Kitten, outstretched hands and broken dreams, a dead part of her heart that needs to know if the shame of her existence is really what drove Eily away, if it's right for her to hate the Father.

"No, she didn't let us keep a thing. My Father, bless his shame-faced duplicity, used to leave money for me, but Whiskers snatched that up for herself all the while puffing away like a smoke stack and complaining how we brats ate her out of house and home, what could we need another mewling little mouth for."

Kitten gives a tired, ironic little smile. "So you and I never had mothers, we'll just have to stick together."
