It had taken Charles some time, but he did manage to leave the mansion. He made his way to the cafe that he often visited, ordering a tea and recognizing the Green Lantern. He took his order with a nod to the server and then moved the wheelchair over to Kyle.

"Good afternoon, Kyle." Charles said with a smile. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

"Oh - no, not really. S'good to see you out and about, Charles." He gave a bit of a sheepish grin from behind his mask. "Kinda in a rut lately - thought popping out here would help me get some inspiration."

He nodded. "I am fairly sure someone would have dragged me out of the mansion if I didn't leave it willingly." And his students and sister could be very persuasive.

Charles looked down at the paper then up at Kyle. "Everyone seems to be in a bit of one."

"Myself included. Though I can't really talk lately," he replied, letting out a huff of air.

"Well, suppose that's a good thing, at least. Knowing I'm not alone, I mean, not others being in a rut."

That earned the Green Lantern a smile. There were honestly times when he wished the friends he had in the city were there in his waking world as well. It'd make things far easier to cope with. "You are a friend, Kyle. You've all the room to talk about it, even if you are guilty of the same thing."

Charles gave a sigh. "It is rather odd that we all seem to be in a rut at once. If I was a far more paranoid person, I would wonder if the city was up to something."

"Nah, I'm not really the kind of guy to push that sort of thing - unless it gets to a certain point. Then I think we'll have to worry about an intervention."

Kyle shrugged, twirling his pencil idly in his hand before continuing- "I'm worried about that now, and I"m honestly not even that paranoid. Seems to be a pattern around here."

"Perhaps it's the nature of a dream world." Charles shrugged. "If we can manipulate certain things by our thoughts, then emotions could be key in that as well."

"Maybe. Emotions are pretty powerful things, this thing's proof positive of that one," Kyle replied, pointing to his Power Ring.

His eyes went to the green ring in question. "And what emotion does that respond to? If you don't mind me asking."

"Willpower. Put enough will behind what I want to create and it'll be made - to a point. There's still a few restrictions on the rings, but it's nothing too horrible to worry about if you don't try abusing its power." He internally winced at the statement, though. That very thing was what caused Hal to fall prey to Parallax and Sinestro's plans - including the "new policies" that the Guardians put into place during the Sinestro Corps War.

He tilted his head in interest, absorbing what Kyle was saying. A ring that was powered by one's willpower. It was certainly a fascinating concept. He nodded slowly to show he understood as he pondered it over. "I assume this means the Green Lanterns are chosen?"

"Yeah. Our biggest requirement is being able to 'overcome great fear'. I ... I'm kind of an exception, but that was an emergency situation," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck. "I still grew into the role, though."

"Everyone has it in them to over come fear, my friend. It is just if they choe to indulge that ability or let it fade off." He said, attempting to be reassuring to the man and his position. "Sometimes, when you pick the person, it isn't about how they are at the moment. It is about the potential they have; who they can become. What they can become."

His voice wavered slightly as he looked into the distance for a moment. That was why he narrowed down the list of mutants he did with Erik. Their abilities would certainly be helpful, yes, but Charles knew their thoughts and the potential in side of each of them. He could see who Darwin, Alex, Sean, Angel, Raven, Hank and even Erik (especially Erik) could all become. It would take work, but Charles had devoted himself to them even before he met them. The moment Moira had offered him the chance to do something with his life, he devoted himself to it. He would do whatever he could within his power to help them succeed ( ... )

"That ... yeah. That's true. Both the one that chose me as well as the other members of the Corps know that even though I might not have been the best candidate at first, I still was able to overcome my fears and make it work. I can't say I'm not without them, though - just about everyone's got them. It's ... just a matter of how you deal with it and keep moving forward." His expression hardened a little, his thoughts sweeping back to during the Sinestro Corps War, when he fell prey to his own doubts and fear and was possessed by Parallax. That was easily one of the lowest points of his career as a Lantern, but at the same time, it proved at the same time that he was deserving of his former title as the Corps' "torchbearer", even if the mantle had been passed to Sodam Yat during the same War.

"And I'm definitely grateful for everyone that's helped me along the way - I'm definitely a better person for it, no ifs ands or buts about that."

His gaze moved back to the Green Lantern at the comment of 'moving forward.' Everyone seemed to do a bloody brilliant job at that but him, it seemed. Every time he felt he moved forward, he felt as if he was set back by two feet. It was a constant struggle, and it was wearing down on him. He was tired.

"And then you'll do what you can to inspire others, no doubt." Charles said, not sharing any of the inner thoughts.
