And hey, Harry's thrown plenty of punches too. This should be interesting.
"So, any rules? Allergic to anything?" He grinned the grin that he used against people like Marcone. Sardonic and for some, absolutely infuriating in its cockiness and complete lack of seriousness. "Got an epipen on ya, just in case?"

"Allergies?"
He's also eyeing that staff, though. He has seen others use it, but few male magic-users in his world are threats, himself, his brother, and Elijah not withstanding. Elijah has told him a few things about Harry, in their conversations about housemates and others that Elijah has met, but at the moment, the Nordic warrior isn't taking him as seriously as he should.
That's why he's waiting to let Harry make the first move.

Big and quiet, eh? Its not the first tall and quiet gorilla he's run across. Maybe he's found Hendrick's second cousin or something - they both look like they came from the same gene pool.
Or...Hell's Bells. He could be Hendrick's and Gard's kid.
Harry, brain out of the horror pit, back to the fighting. Leveling his staff at the big lug, he spooled his will and focus down to the tip of the staff and with a deep breath and a bellow, started the fight with a Fozare!, a hammer-fisted block of pure kinetic energy aimed just below his center of gravity, looking to take his legs out from under him.

Either way, Harry's babbling has distracted him enough that the spell hits, bringing Geir down to his knees with a shout in German. He doesn't waste time after that, extending his spear and gathering flames at the tip before flinging the fire in Harry's direction, using his free hand to push off the ground and back onto his feet.

That spear has Harry putting up a shied between him and the giant of a man. At his size, a swing from that thing would probably feel like being hit with a telephone pole. The gout of fire illuminates the whole damn forest for a moment and Harry wonders if this guy paid attention to the fact they're in a forest. FULL OF TREES.
He doesn't want this to turn into a Smokey the Bear commercial. So he waits for the big lug to close in on him, shield a hazy hemispherical shape before him, and watches his movements as closely as he can. At the last second, Harry will attempt to dodge out of the way.

The fire hazard hasn't escaped Geir, but the man has never seen bamboo before in his life. While he's sure it's flammable, he doesn't know how fast it burns -- and okay, he's a little pissy that he was taken down like that on the first shot.
Harry's strategy would work fairly well if Geir had any idea of either swinging or throwing his spear, or even approaching the other man. As it is, he's still planning on testing him with magicks. The shield, of course, could be a problem.
So, we have two tall men with wood in their hands staring at each other. Perfect time for Geir to cast some protective spells over himself, so he does, keeping his spear pointed at Harry in case he tries anything. He also readies a dispel -- just in case.

Harry keeps his shield up steady as he watches Gier circle around him, the spear still on fire, but not swinging for his face. Playing defensive or just biding his time? While he started to build up some sort of shield around himself, Harry decided to attack him on a different front.
"So, flaming spear? I can imagine you're a few bottles of communal wine from being mistaken for Old Scratch, huh? Ever get that schtick before? The whole "omg child of the devil, you just lit something on fire!" thing? I never understood that. The Big J was always big on the flashy displays. Water into wine, feeding thousands on some fish and a few loaves of bread. Not like there's not a precedent or anything..."
Running his mouth had worked before. If anything, it was good back ground noise for some. But as long as he was hearing him blather, he was less inclined to pay attention to the fact that Harry was gripping his staff tight, his will suppressed until...perfect!
