Yuuta had been wandering around the city as well, his hands itching to take off his mask and encourage others to do the same. Not being able to speak, not being able to show his face, ask questions, do this or that... City of Dreams his ass. Sighing, he frowned at the view of the ocean, not liking it.
Oceans were a way to get to one place or another, and he doubted that anyone tried to escape this place with a boat.
Ciel also didn't relish the mask but had sense enough to keep it on. This wasn't his game nor his rules, so for now he was trying to avoid drawing unwanted attention toward himself. He, however, did not intend to placate to this place forever.
"I doubt anyone has bothered," The boy answered swiftly. In his experience, most the people he'd spoken to had been only too willing to believe everything they'd heard about this place, and didn't seem ambitious enough to take up such an endeavor. They were like sheep being led to slaughter. He sighed and leaned on a nearby railing, "It could lead to nowhere, or it could be a viable way out-- the risk outweighs the reward for most".
"A stir?" He tilted his head to the side, "There is a resistance movement of some sort... and there have already been a few punishments administered. I would say that qualifies as a stir". Surprisingly, the Earl was feeling a bit more talkative than usual today.
Yuuta had heard the same thing basically, but there were rumors about people who were as displeased of being here as he was. If the King and Queen wanted this place to be happy and peaceful, why drag people here against their will? The whole bit of everyone seeming to know them was ludicrous.
"Yes, I am," he replied. "I have been trying to get out ever since I found this place, but as you can probably guess, those who cause stirs are not well liked."
"I suspected," Ciel replied easily. "I think you'll find that most of us desire to leave save for the few whose "realities" are more repugnant than this gilded cage". Not that Ciel's life and existence in his own time was that appealing but he did have something he needed to accomplish back home. Staying here was only delaying the task and irritating him further.
"There are those that tire of hearing how others desire to leave..." He added. "I'm not one of those people".
"While it is repetitive, and merely stating as such accomplishes nothing.. I can still appreciate the sentiment".
"I am glad someone does," Yuuta said. "So many have given me odd looks as if I really do belong here, or have told me to live with it, there is no way out." Crossing his arms, he looked to the ocean again. "I refuse to believe that."
Indeed, he hated the idea of being trapped. He had barely managed to escape being made into a pawn by his own father, so why the hell would be want to live in this 'gilded cage' as Ciel put it?
"Do you think that a way home might have anything to do with the mirrors located in the houses? The ones showing our worlds?"
"Tch-- there is a large gathering of defeatists here.." Ciel complained recalling the portal communications he generally ignored. ".. but there are varying opinions on the matter".
He didn't even have to hesitate before moving to the next line,"There is a way out..". Not everyone who had been drawn to Promenade initially was still there. Unless they were littering some unmarked graveyard, they probably returned home. "No one has discovered it yet.. or if they have.. they've let without sharing the location or method".
Ciel had been kidnapped and imprisoned before by some of the most deplorable people in the world. This was nothing compared to that and yet still he desired to make the maintainers of Promenade suffer for delaying him. "It's possible.. but I can't say with any certainty. When the mirrors are broken, they just repair themselves.. You can't pass through them but.. they could hold some sort of clue".
"The mirrors?" he repeated. He had been ignoring it for mostly his sanity's sake. "What if I break them and keep a shard of it? If they repair themselves, they will need all the pieces, right?" He was thinking of some sort of way to figure out how the mirrors worked or how he was replaced so easily in his home world.
"I'm unaware if that has been attempted but I think there's a good chance that the shard would still manage to make it's way back to being a part of the whole," Despite having been here for months Ciel still didn't know how they worked. It was apparently a closely guarded secret. "Checking old portal entries should give you more insight into what's been attempted". He was growing weary of playing twenty questions with the boy and getting very little out of the conversation for himself.
"That is true," Yuuta mused. He wish he was not so new to this place or that it was so hard to find information. He could tell that Ciel was getting annoyed with this. "I shall have to take some time and do that then. If I find out anything, would you like me to message you?"
That was something the two shared. A desire for information that was far from forthcoming. Yuuta had picked up on Ciel's disinterest and was trying to accommodate him. It was appreciated so the boy tried to think of any advice that may be essential for operating in Promenade. "Please do, and I shall return the favor".
"Consequently, have you figured out how to relay a private message over the portal? I'm skeptical as to how secure this communication method is, but filters do limit the amount of people who can view or hear your messages..". The city maintainers, for all he knew, could have a method of tapping into any communication sent over that thing.
"Making something private should be easy, unless whoever controls this place is able to hack into our systems due to them designing it," Yuuta replied. If there was one thing he never had trouble with, it was figuring out how technology worked and how to make ti work better for him. At the same time, he was glad that Ciel appeared less annoyed. "Filters are even easier, so if I find anything, I'll be sure that no one else hears of it unless we want to release it."
Admittedly, the technology was a bit different than what Ciel was used to but at least he had learned that much in is stay here. It sounded as if Yuuta had more experience with such things in his own time. "That was precisely one of my concerns. It may be designed so those in charge are able to read, hear, and see everything that is shared". Perhaps Yuuta's particular skills would come in handy at some juncture. "Very well then".
"I will make a testing post to see if anyone can read the text aside from you. One part will be public, another part will be filtered. If no one can repeat what has been filtered to you, then we know."
Yuuta certainly couldn't blame Ciel for being from a different time where the technology would be considered outdated; he could have been transported to a world where the machines he used were considered archaic.

If Ciel was contemplating to himself, he didn't mean to disturb him.
