Adventures in Driving to school

Oct 02, 2007 00:51

I alway wanted to write about my 15 minute drive from my apartment to NIU.

On my way, one will find:

1. A pond with a beautiful fountain, in front of the rental community

2A. Corn (so high that I almost kill myself everytime I turn on Barber Green Road)
(They should really put a stop sign there)

2B. Cut corn (as of 10/1/2007. I feel lost because its like another place... but yeay for seeing cars coming at you at 90 mph at Barber Green Road)

3. Chicken (who escaped from their cage today and were all on the road)

4. Sheep. Sometimes, they are fully furred, sometimes they are naked. Sometimes, they only have half of their hair, which looks really funny.

5. Herd Dog (new as of 9/29/2007) White and pretty!

6. Horses (and supposedly Dekalb county is known for horse slaughtering... sadness)

6B. Oxen? These babies definitely aren't Horses

7. Roadkill (usually a squirrel, chipmonk or racoon)
I completely killed a squirrel on the way to work once. First, I saw it run. Then, I heard CRUNCH. I felt sad after that.
.
.
.
Then I had to see it on my way home. Gah!

8. Deer, followed by another deer, in your headlights, running out of a cornfield (but only at Night so they can scare the living f*^& out of you (another way to almost die)

9. Moths. BUT, funny thing is, you don't notice them until you put your brights on. Then, they just appear!

10. An airport. Yes, a small airport.

11. An animal hospital. What? To save all the animals you just killed on the way there???

12. The Kishwaukee River (which flooded over the first week of school)

13. Walmart.

14. A sudden burst of 20 franchises and automobile sales shops ("civilization")

15. A Mansion by the name of Ellwood House.

16. "Speed tables". No more dingy speed bumps! TABLES! Gaurenteed to break your car!

17. The cops, who have nothing better to do

18. Stars, at night

One time when driving on 64 toward Chicago, I saw a Fox! I guess thats why the area is called Fox Valley!

The end.
