Sometimes I find some good cake books at a local Half-Price Bookstore, and this weekend I bought Debbie Brown's
Cartoon Cakes. I also have her
50 Easy Party Cakes and would like to get a copy of her
Wallace and Gromit book.
One thing I'd like to do is learn to create characters out of fondant/gum paste, and getting the cartoon character cake will give me a good start. I'm at that point where I'm trying to master the basics of cake decorating while eager to learn new stuff, so my upcoming projects may not look totally polished but they will be fun.
I've also been cataloging my pans and other cake decorating supplies, including some of the stuff I bought a long time ago. I found that I have a bowling pin pan and a Boba Fett pan, but I can't find the R2D2 pan I thought I had. I also found some candy molds -- like I need another hobby, but chocolate making also has something I've wanted to try and that skill can complement cake decorating. Did I mention I need more kitchen?
