Conversation had yesterday:[1]
C: I would think this plot sucked if it was fan fiction. And you know it would be all slashy hurt/comfort crap.
Me: Now I'm picturing slashy hurt/comfort fan fic with
those two, and it's disturbing.
C: And you know why it's disturbing?
Me: Hmm?
C: Because it's slashy, hurt/comfort fanfic.
Me: For me it's more picturing Stellan Skarsgård naked.
Later...[2]
T: Ough. Is he having his period now?
Me: Maybe it's straying into some horrific mPreg fanfic territory.
C: Oh God! I hate that I know what you're talking about!
[1] My friend C has friends over for weekly movie events. This month we are doing double features over Sunday brunch. Yesterday we were compare/contrasting Paul Schrader's
Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist with Renny Harlin's
Exorcist: The Beginning. In attendance were myself, C (male), T (female), G (male), Ch (female), and Z G&Ch's baby. Both movies are both horrifically bad. With Schrader's version being far more boring, and Harlin's version resorting to things jumping at you from out of frame and randomized violence against children for "tension." The one saving grace for both films was Vittorio Storaro's art direction, if nothing else (and there really was nothing else) the movies were shot beautifully.
The first quote above was about halfway through the Schrader version.
[2] Evidentally, the producers wanted more blood and gore than Schrader provided them. Harlin obliged with several scenes of blood dripping on the floor between the victim's legs, regardless of where the wound is placed on the body, or the sex of the victim. In one instance, it really is menstrual blood - from a woman who was given an involuntary hysterectomy by the Nazis. What I learned from this film is that Harlin hates children and fears women. I already knew he was a shity director.
The second quote was said about 3/4 of the way through Harlin's version when a British officer accidentally smears his face with thick, dark blood and then notices his hands have become mysteriously covered in it. Oh noes! He's become a woman, now he must shoot the CGI butterfly in his mouth.
