Can I get a What What?!

May 12, 2004 15:03

Hmm. It's 3PM and I'm at school...my AMST final starts at 3:30. So, you know what that means. Useless rambling pointless post that no one will care about!

I'm slowly gaining a monopoly on Spade character fanlistings. XD Unfortunately, I don't have the actual David Spade fanlisting. Sigh. Characters are good too though. Then I was thinking about the different characters he's played in movies and I also remembered some movies I had actually temporarily forgotten about, like Lost & Found. XD So look! My pointless post will consist of Spade movies and whether I reccomend them or not. Excited or what?!

These are in no particular order whatsoever.

Tommy Boy

Ah yes. Tommy Boy suceeds where other comedies have failed. It's a 'buddy' comedy that is STILL funny, 9 years later. Chris Farley and David Spade's chemistry together really made this movie, and it's still so devastating to think about what else they could have done together if Chris hadn't OD'd. Anyway. Richard is funny and my favorite Spade character evah. :D If you haven't seen this movie, you MUST.

Black Sheep

Another Farley/Spade movie, which David jokes "Black Sheep was funnier the first time, when it was called Tommy Boy". XD True, but it does have its own moments and Gary Busey makes an appearance so how can you go wrong. Spade plays Steve Dodds who I personally think is a bit dumber than Richard and more of a scaredy-cat. Farley and Spade's characters grow close throughout the film but not on the same brotherly level as Tommy and Richard did in Tommy Boy. :)

Lost & Found

Uhm...yeah. I taped this one a few years ago, and it was David's first forray into solo lead characterdom, and also his first role where he tries to "get the girl" (and suceeds). He and Sophie Marceau are an odd kinda pair...the movie had its ups and its downs, my main favorite thing in this movie was getting to see David sing "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show"... XD The thing that sorely stuck out and just didn't work was that casting gave David's character Dylan a fat guy buddy...it was painstakingly obvious that this was a role intended for the late Farley. Unfortunately, Spade and Farley's chemistry is not something they could just duplicate. Not bad, but I'd say save this as a rental or something one night.

The Adventures of Joe Dirt

Oh Lord. I love my Davey, but this is by FAR my least favorite Spade film. I have no idea what he was thinking, nor do I want to know. XD The only funny part was the "You like to see homeboys naked?" part, and the fact that Christopher Walken's in it. Unfortunately video/DVD sales for this film are apparently so good that he's contemplating a sequel. Don't do it Davey! Stay away from this one at all costs and definitely DON'T take this as the pinnacle of his talent. Yargh.

Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star

Dickie, is a desperate sort of character but like all of Spade's characters, has a good heart. I recommend this one whole-heartedly. It's possibly his first film that really centers on the idea of family and familial love. It has its slow points but overall rocks the casbah. :D

The Emporer's New Groove

Spade voices the emporer Kuzco who is turned into a llama by his former royal advisor. Initial commercials for this movie made me think it was gonna be unfunny and stupid, but it's easily one of my favorite animated Disney flicks and is hilarious. David and John Goodman do really well together, and the supporting cast is great. I highly reccomend it.

I'm running out of time so...here are other Spade movies where he doesn't have a highly prominent role: PCU, Coneheads, 8 Heads In A Duffel Bag, and some more. One of the only Spade movies I haven't seen is Senseless so I have no basis on which to judge that.

David's 2 sitcoms are "Just Shoot Me!" which ended last year. Currently he plays the nehphew CJ on "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter".

The Spadeness, it's everywhere. XD
