Like others, I'm disappointed about the way Slytherin is seen as pretty fundamentally evil within the book - none of the Slytherins except Slughorn stay to fight against the Death Eaters - and they are still unintegrated 19 years later, if Ron's comments, and those of Harry's kids, are typical. Harry is the only one who expresses an alternative opinion. Without such change at Hogwarts true change in UK wizarding society would be unlikely, I think, so things could start all over again, with a different leader at its head.
I was pleasantly surprised by the richer depiction of Dumbledore - his flirting with anti-Muggledom (fascism, essentially), always the temptation of the philosopher-kings who are so much clever than the ordinary person. I loved the fact that all the print media in the book was flawed in some way, and that Rita was kinda right, to challenge Dumbledore's reputation - no human can ever be perfect.
I don't like the epilogue, but if it had to be included I would have valued more insight into what wizarding society is like 19 years later (now, ish), and particularly what's happening with the very corrupt Ministry of Magic. More info, please!
Now, for something completely different: a hilarious
HP:DH parody. Do not read, though, unless you want to be spoilered or just don't give a toss about reading the book. Thanks SO much for the link,
kateorman!
