Goofing Off

Since both of my boys have their spring break this week (Iowa and Iowa State) we had lunch together yesterday. My oldest talked us into going to a Japanese restaurant and feeling adventuresome, we did. He had shashimi (raw fish) but I had a combination plate -- and we all had sushi. He showed me how to mix wasabi into the soy sauce. And then he laughed hysterically when I got a little TOO much wasabi and my eyes watered and my sinuses cleared! But then he did it too and we all laughed like hyenas. I've had sushi before but mixing the wasabi with the soy sauce and then dipping it was the key. It was amazing to watch both boys deftly using their chopsticks while I fumbled with mine. And it was surreal watching my "picky eater extrordinaire" scarfing down raw fish! I can remember when he would eat a box of cereal (yeah, the BIG box!) for breakfast and spagettios for supper and not much in between. Now he is quite a good cook with his own vegetable garden and fresh herbs... What a difference a few years make!

Since I've been so busy this week I'm looking forward to playing around with my pb idea and catching up on laundry. What an exciting life I lead -- I think this could easily be turned into a movie of the week!
