Second week of being a teacher aide. My student, all adorable and extremely active 6 years of her, does not understand the concepts of 'before' and 'after'.
For example:
Me: *while using hundred board* "Alright *insert name*, find me three."
Student: "Here!" *flips over coloured '3' tile*
Me: "Good, now, what number comes before three?'
Student: "Um... five?"
I have seen her use counting on (on occasion) for adding and a minute later going back to counting from one. Then the next thing I know I ask her to count out six beans, she puts down seven and says that that is six.
But, there is some progress being made. Her handwriting is improving very slowly. It's actually legible now, and taking her off into a corner away from the group to work has reduced some of her stress.
