*flops*

MScs are busy.

Official Work To Be Done:

1) Conservation Management Plan.
- Not a lot of actual progress here yet. Must check tomorrow if we've finished the malaise trap sorting, and capture Gordon/Jasmin for planning positions of pitfall traps. Must buy some freezer bags for soil samples - or possible gauze.

2) Hemiptera feeding behaviour practical.
- What's trickier than dissecting locusts the size of your thumb? Dissecting bugs the size of your little fingernail. Really must buy my own dissection kit, and a hand-lens.
- This involved a 5hr session of watching bugs make choices of seeds to drill into and suck at. We named most of ours.

This probably wouldn't have been so much of a slog, had it not been the morning after the pub-crawl. (I went looking for ciders. To indicate how well that went: gin-gin-gin-wine-gin-Magners.) Very fun pub-crawl though, ending in a mini-party in the JohnSmith TV room. Located someone else who listens to Hammerfall, and freaked people out with my double-jointedness. Also debated Cambridge vs. Imperial rules of pennying.

3) Field guide to British… something. Was originally going to be Dipteran families and Tipulidae species, but there are a stupid number of Tipulidae, and I think we'll be switching to stoneflies instead, as they've only got about 37 species.

Other Things To Be Done:

1) Buy a bike! Getting to the station this morning took freakin' ages on foot.
2) Buy a new rucksack. Mine is actually falling apart now, and has ceased to be waterproof.
3) Form Sci-fi society. Possibly form Geek society. Either way, consider a wiki.
4) Beat the Elite Four
4) Watch films, make foods, buy textbooks.
5) Participate in
hogwarts_live , dammit.

Other Things That Have Happened: lol, golem-speak

1) Beer/chocolate-enteering. Receive map, run like the blazes, attempt to find beer/chocolate hidden in the grounds. Didn't do very well, but Laurence found much more chocolate and only wanted the beer. Win!

2) 'Classy' cocktails in the bar, and turning of the social room into a bit of a Bassment for a night. Themed 'dress to impress', so I dug out ye goth-kit for an evening. The tea-caddy collar actually goes quite well with my red flowy-sleeve top. Entertaining, but possibly stayed a bit late considering today…:

3) Hastings a-visiting. Today, I have mostly spent on the train. Missed the first one to London, thanks to aforementioned lack of bike. Get next train, reach Waterloo, move to Waterloo East. Find that neither staff, nor internet, nor timetables agree on when the next train I want will be. Pick one by sitting on the platform until the announcement sounds about right, find that while it claims to stop at Battle, it actually means I need to get off and catch a bus, because of line maintenance.

End result, I didn't get there until 2.30, by which point the vike were mustering. Did get to see the main battle of course, and catch a very tired
filius_lupi  afterwards (who has bought me lovely things - I has vike jewellery, and slightly woodsmoked hugs ^_^ ). Hung around the camp for an hour/two, feeling slightly on the sidelines again - as tends to happen when you turn up to a re-enactment event in normal clothes, and when everyone is already knackered, and headed back to the station. My gameboy then died, leaving me only the textbook I'd brought for morning reading, which isn't easy to concentrate on when you're sleepy and wanting to murder loud groups of lads in your carriage.
Got back to Silwood at about 10.30pm. *zonk*
