Intriguing.
As ye may have realised by this point - I now reside in Silwood Park! This is near Ascot, has a Manor house, ~150acres of assorted habitat, half a million rabbits, squirrels and varied life forms, and I am here to do MSc Insect Diversity & Conservation.
There are… 7 of us doing entomology, I think 4 of us doing IDC. Whee :D
Arrived on Saturday, thanks to a lift from Lee, and his car stuffed to the automotive gills with Stuff. We went over the Dartford bridge, which was quite futuristic, didn't get too horribly lost, and piled all my stuff into my room. He vanished cam-ward, and I meandered over to the free tea and biscuits meeting of arriving people.
Within about an hour, I'd discussed Dr Who, Discworld and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, in some cases several times. W00!
Sunday - more meeting, unpacking, Tescos-visiting etc. Set-up costs are expensive :( Should've brought more spices etc from Podhouse, but oh well. It turns out:
a) Smoked paprika is a nice flavr.
b) There are 5 people on my corridor, with kitchen facilities/friges/freezes, for about 11. Score!
c) We have a good TV room, with DVD player and sofas.
d) Nearby pub does Stoford press cider. Yum. Bar only has Strongbow/Magners, but does G&T with lime.
e) There are lots of sci-fi fans here :)
Monday - Visiting of the South Kensington Campus… for some reason. Mostly we stood around, wondered what was happening (having all already registered on the internet anyway), ate free buffet lunch (good lunch, lots of cheese and pie), had nothing to do so had a wander around the Natural History museum, listened to a talk and came back here. Watched more Dr Who.
Tuesday - intro talks, socialising, GIANT JENGA.
Today - first lecture, and a bomb scare, but I have just been reminded that we're heading to Reading (hee), so more on that later!

stuff,
