I find such discoveries fascinating: "In fact Buddhism declines existence of what is termed jiva (soul) in Hindu and in Jainu traditions. Some passages from early Buddhist texts concerning the non-existence of the soul so closely resemble reasonings of David Hume in his "Treatise of Human Nature", that 19th-century Buddhologists were astonished. Such theories being in the West the domain of sceptical, free- and even anti-religious thinking, were put in Buddhism into purely religious context."
