I've always liked your voice but as I have gotten older, I understand the insane difference actual voice training does for a person - and that lack of training in a singer becomes more apparent because of it. That's my biggest criticism and it's not even of something you choose to do most of the time - but I do think it would be really beneficial should you choose to do this more (which you should).
Definite personal opinion here: Way more entertaining than watching someone sit and do an entire set of acoustic songs trying to sound all hip and folksy. You were trying something different and I think it was working (but still needing work… more on that in a sec). I am so tired of those toads. Don’t get me wrong, I like acoustic, but I hate how there are so many people who do ONLY that.
So, liking the approach… the only thing I think you need is more of a hook. Like, for example, your set is a variety of songs but combined they tell a story. Or tribute night - get people to request songs for the next time you show up and then learn those songs… that way you connect with the audience even more and it makes them want to come back and see how you did. I really think you can make up for that lack of play between band members with throwing a spin on it that keeps it cohesive and entertaining.
As for the band… blah humbug to um! I am proud you got up there and did this and I hope you can do it again - it’s healthy and an over-all positive thing - and right now people can really use a song and an inspiration. *nodnod*
Couple of things…
