Dear Sir or Madam at my company,

Normally, I really don't care how I'm addressed. Some people call me 'Poetics,' others 'Christopher,' and some less reputable titles, in my out-of-office life. However, I have gone to great effort to ensure that in this professional setting, my preferred address as 'Christopher' is well-known. All of my emails are from 'Christopher,' all of my email signatures say 'Christopher,' my voicemail says 'Christopher,' and I've introduced myself to you as 'Christopher.' Heck, my work IM includes 'Christopher' as a reminder.

Please take the hint. When I email you with the 'Christopher' signature and you respond with "Hey Chris," it causes me to roll my eyes. I daresay my eyes have done more than a 360 this morning alone. We all have preferences for what we like to be called. Phil wouldn't appreciate being addressed as "P-Dawg," Michael wouldn't enjoy people calling him "Mikey," and heaven forbid you accidentally call Steven "Steve."

Seriously, folks, it's common courtesy.
-- Christopher
