The insanity that was May

Oh my goodness. I can't believe I survived the month. That was one mentally exhausting month. Right after my courses were over and projects were finished, my supervisor indicated to my that he wanted me (along with himself and 2 other grad students) to write a paper for the ASSETS conference in October. Exciting, right? I couldn't believe that I was going to submit a paper for the world to read. I was thrilled at the start but then as I got to writing the paper, it was mentally straining. I never thought it would be so hard or so stressful. Even though the paper was based on my project paper, I pretty much had to re-write the entire thing and add a heck of a lot of material in 1.5 weeks. During this time, we had meetings every day and group edited our papers. The time constraint was stressful and the politics involved was not something I enjoyed. I had learned a lot during it but still, I'm not sure if I truly want to do that again. I probably will but I don't want to think about it for the next little while. Anyhow, the paper is now complete and submitted. Hopefully, it's good enough for the committee to accept and then I'll be officially published. =)

Pretty much as soon as that was over, I started working at Congress 2007, which is essentially 70+ conferences occurring over the period of one week. It all happened on campus. There have been so many people here and so much happening. I didn't get to see much of it because I was basically hired to more or less sit and do nothing. I had something to do for maybe a total of an hour during each 8+ hour day. Kinda boring but hey, I got paid to do nothing. =) I've been catching up on email and just playing on the internet. Also reading a book. I was working at an information book for the first half of the week and for this second half, I've been working at the book fair. It's kinda neat to do this. I got to learn a bit about publishing and the life of a traveling salesman. I've had a bit of fun doing it. Met some interesting people. The best part of the conference has been getting the free stuff. hehehe. Of course there were pens and mints. But the really cool thing has been coffee mugs and cloth bags. I managed to get a few bags, which will come in handy when grocery shopping. =)

It's been an exhausting month and today is the last day of congress. Not a heck of a lot happening and many of the booths have already packed up. After this, I'll get to spend the rest of the summer relaxing more than I have so far and enjoy the city. Of course, I also have to start my research. Let me know if you have any (legitimate, not insane or outlandish) suggestions. =P
