I have now been in Bellevue, WA for almost three weeks and for the last 3 weeks, I felt like I'm totally lost, with a million things to do and not really knowing how to do it. Today, I finally feel like I'm settling in and that work has finally begun. You know why? (And this is somewhat sad.) I finally got wireless Internet today.
Although the Internet was set up the first day I moved into my new apartment (that's right, I couldn't even bear the thought of not having Internet as soon as I move in), I didn't have a router so I've been using the wire for the last 3 weeks. With 2 personal computers, I've had a heck of a time sharing the Internet between them. One computer has a webcam, the other has a bigger screen. Can't fully function with only one or the other plugged into the Internet.
For the last week, I've been trying to do the whole "work remotely from home" thing. My work laptop is very very cool (LENOVO ThinkPad Carbon X1 with a touch screen) and of course I would want to be able to work remotely. I could potentially go into work late or go home early and work from home. Going home early has been very necessary the past couple weeks because I've been ordering a lot of things online (yay relocation!) and I needed to get home early enough to pick up my packages from the main office.
Unfortunately, when all I had was the wired-Internet, my work laptop couldn't connect to my Internet. I was probably missing a step in the setup process but I had no idea what it was, and I was too lazy to make the 15-minute walk to work to find out what the problem was. The wireless router finally arrived today and with the wireless now all set up, my work laptop connects to the network without a glitch. Whoohoo! Now I can work from home! (Isn't it sad that I'm happy about having to work at all hours of the day?)
With the Internet finally set up, it's looking to be a good week/month. =D I have two separate visits from friends this week, with another to come some time in November. I will get to experience my very first American Thanksgiving (Yay 2 Thanksgivings this year!) and Black Friday. I wonder what I'll manage to buy... Let's hope I don't get trampled out there. And at work, I feel like I'm starting to understand what's happening around me, which is good because I have a deadline in 3 weeks. It's going to be a very eventful month for sure. =)
