"Percy," Ginny asks, "are you in love with Penny?"
They are on his bed, hangings drawn, and he is painting her fingernails. This is Their Secret, because Percy is a Prefect. He has a Reputation. It does not involve sparkly-pink nailpolish.
Percy starts, his usually-steady hand slopping a streak across Ginny's thumb. "No."
"Then why do you kiss her?"
"You kiss Mum. Are you in love with her?"
"That's different. I'm not stupid. I'm eleven, not three."
Percy smiles. "I know. Sometimes I forget."
(Ginny, however, is still young enough to be soothed by a kiss and a promise from her brother that she is the only girl he loves.)
