Knowledge of jrock is spreading to those I love. Yesterday I read a portion of an interview to Dave. When I said "Reita" he said, "Wait, he's the one with nose strap right

I finally relented and decided to listen to one of these clips. I was alone when I downloaded it, but then Mike and Ilona returned from their outing. Ilona ran to my lap and said "What's THAT, Momma?" Mike said, and you are going to die when you read this, but he honestly said, "Is that the Japanimation stuff Dyann listens to?" The last time I heard the term Japanimation, Abe said it, and someone in the room lit into him for it (was it you?)
This all came on the heels of me having a lovely, quiet listening of Beethoven's 9th. Quite jarring, really. I have to say, it really just sounds gothy/80's...and really different to listen to Japanese lyrics.
YAY I KNEW YOU'D CAVE EVENTUALLY!!! I see you chose Libra, though why in the world didn't you tell me which one it was?! Libra is rather different from the usual for me. Maybe that's why I'm so taken with it. So, was Ilona's tone one of "oooh, what's that?" or "yucky, WTF is that?!" ;)
I laughed so much with the "Japanimation" comment. Did you tell him? And yes, that probably was me with Abe. The worst was when Jay Manuel said it on America's Next Top Model. You should have seen me spazz at that one.
Yes, I could see how it would be jarring. I was fearful that you chose the Acid Black Cherry one, which I can almost guarantee you won't like. But yes, Dave has also commented on the gothy/80's feel to many of the songs. But in a Cruxshadows way more than a Sisters of Mercy way. In general, they're also more vocally-musical than American rock.
Maybe in future song-of-the-moment posts I'll include a "Song for Jess" one. It will be fun to try to find one that you'll like. Or laugh at.
I have to burn you now. I didn't bother telling you which one because I imagine they are all the same. *evil grin* I'm sorry to say, but Ilona's tone was "yucky, WTF is that?!" This is a toddler who can already aurally tell the difference between Mozart and Bach, so it was understandably not in her realm of experience.
Yes, I told him immediately, then he thought it was funny that I'd be snobbish about it. I wasn't...I just remember the scathing remarks that followed Abe's comment. Ugh. Bad Jay.
Well, yeah, definitely more in a Cruxshadows way. So, is this stuff hot in Japan? I'm just curious, because it seems to be about 20 years behind what's being produced in the US. (not that that's a bad thing...most modern stuff is lame!)
Haha. Actually looking back through my songs that I've posted, there's some variety in there. None of them have that spoken-ish, vaguely rappish thing that Libra has. Thought the chorus is not so unusual sounding.
Yes, it's current in Japan. This batch of songs are all from 2007 to my knowledge (or at least off the track info in iTunes, and I'm to lazy to look it up elsewhere because I know you don't care that much). As far as it being hot...well, I can't speak to that. I guess like any music it's hot in it's niche. Toshi didn't know who any of the bands were that I listened to, but he was also in his 40's. And it's not like I know half of the "in" bands here in the US now. But there is definitely a very large fanbase, that's fer shure.
The Shunkahuutou offshoot, of course! What makes you think that I will ever have/know of anything jrock related before you do? That's crazy talk, woman! XD
I have not seen the Libra PV. *adds it to the list of things to do tonight*
