Ben Harper Concert Was...

OFF THE HOOK!!!! I had so much fun. You wouldn't believe. I attended the concert with some really good friends of mine, Dom and May. [: Opening act was an amazing hour performance, by none other than Damian "Junior Gong" Marley. His amazing dreads reached down to his thighs. His mellow, yet somehow energetic set promised good things for the rest of the four and a half hour concert. Rastafarian Marley had a small band, synthetic trumpets, two female back up singers and a Rastafarian flag waver. His vibrant set lasted an hour and a half. Next up was the headliner Mr. Ben Harper and his band, the Innocent Criminals. Ben Harper was warmly welcomed by thousands of screaming BHIC fans when he stepped onto the stage at his final of two appearances at the Greek Theatre. During his first song he was accompanied by Radioactive from Spearhead. He beatboxed to one of Ben Harpers songs. It was really good. It got everyone out of their seats. He played his set with his band the innocnet criminals covering songs from Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. At the end of the part of the set with the Innocent Criminals, a percussionist came out playing the intro to "Burn One Down" with a burning joint in his mouth. This then gave way to an acoustic set with Harper by himself on guitar/ sliding guitar. Ben Harper played a good 45 minutes by himself and then came out for his first encore with his band and Marley for an Exodus/ Get Up, Stand Up tribute. Harper and the IC came out for there half hour encore ending on a proactive political note with "I Believe in a Better Way." Overall my first full length Ben Harper concert, was unforgettable and I know it won't be my last.
