Rock'n'roll in Australia

"The piano bit is the equivalent of: ioh; - aegrpoi - aeg - pnoij - waeg - onip"

So I've sadly neglected LJ, and so much stuff is happening, but I'll keep this to today's/this weeks' highlight:

SWITCHFOOT!

They played:

Oh! Gravity - with the piano bits!
Stars
American Dream
Dirty Second Hands ("this is as close as San Diego gets to New Orleans"...it's Jon Foreman's favourite on the new album...mine too!)
Learning to Breathe (with that awesome little piano riff)
Company Car (last half of, by fan request)
Some song they made up, country/rock style, about singing rock'n'roll in Australia. Apparantly Jon can play harmonica
On Fire
Gone ("a happy clappy song about the proximity of death")
Awakening
This is Your Life
Meant to Live

encore:
Dare you To Move
We are One Tonight, with a little segue into Shadow Proves the Sunshine, and then back again
and something else? Maybe something I had above went in here...

I think that's about it. The best moment was in...um...American Dream I think, when they cut completely, and froze at the top/bottom of their guitar strum, drum hit, whatever, and stayed absolutely still for 45 seconds. I couldn't see one of them twitch. So of course we cheered, slow-clapped, and it was ages before suddenly "This ain't my American Dream", and off we went again!
Also, Jon at one stage grabbed one of the drummers cymbals, started playing away at it, get harder and harder, and eventually ended up spinning around, holding the cymbal out with one hand and smacking it with the other. And he didn't fall over!

The Nubian gents were great too, the Youth Alive bit pretty poor, I'm sad to say. Amazing gig, so glad I went, best value for money concert ever.

Also, learnt about Order 614, which breaks records for challenging 1-year programs!

Great night, amazing. On Fire had a particularly good atmosphere, but the whole thing was charged with energy, passion, fun and great tunes!
