In which I boast a bit.

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!

(Love that scene in Pirates II)

OK, so I'm not that good at movies. I've not seen very many in my life - at all - and so I don't necessarily understand what's happening. I don't get references, I don't recognise classic symbols, etc etc etc.

BUT I understood (95% of) Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds' End!!

The bits I didn't get were the start - was the boy important? He had a piece of eight, but given the special pieces of eight weren't actually money, then why does it matter?
Also, I lost out on some of the alliances at the beginning, when the Singaporean pirate seemed to be in with the English? But I had it mostly down by the time we progressed.
So I loved the scene where they are all pointing guns at each other in a circle, I loved Jack bargaining with the head of the EIT Co., I loved the parlay scene with the tension between all the members. I loved the deaths of the two Trading Company officers - both very noble, very English, very dramatic and honourable. I loved the way all the characters ended up actually. Clever bits were the disintegration of Bootstrap Bill, some of the one-liners, the trail of people (although disgusting) to show the way to Shipwreck Cove, the comment that pirates aren't very imaginative when it comes to names, the pirates dismissing old legend (Calypso) - when they are running around with compasses, death, Davey Jones, etc.
I also liked the return of: sea-turtles, the dog, the pair of soldiers (although I was sure one of them died in the final big fight?), and the monkey finally getting to be human.

But yes, the following thing. For example, BenHo asked when we got out 'how come the Cracken died', and I remembered that Beckett had ordered it killed (it's called the 'little pet' of Jones). Or the fact that the monkey was supposed to still be undead, because he was still undead in the second film. Generally I had an idea of what was happening, who was allied with who, what things meant, and often guessed little things before they happened.

OO, I'm fairly sure I picked up one continuity error - which is always risky because other people claimed that, but they just weren't concentrating and had missed the explanation. Here's mine anyway: someone or two fell off the ship when they were getting out of World's End (by rocking the boat, per se!), but Barbossa had told them that no-one must leave the ship? Or was that because he thought, in particular, that Elizabeth couldn't leave? Did he (or did someone, at any rate) think she was Calypso?

And I'd really like to know the answers to just a few questions. For example, why is Jack's Dad immortal?

In other news, things are going fairly well, but it's definitely time for bed now!
