My initial PhD program search is over. I have my top five schools I'm going to apply to.
University of Michigan
University of Illinois (Chicago)
University of Cincinnatti
Cornell University
University of Southern University (Los Angeles)
U of M is my #1 choice right now. They offer this combination English/Women's Studies PhD that I think would be amazing. Plus, it's fairly close to my family but without the unpleasantness of Kalamazoo.
Last night, for some reason, I started thinking about the assault and thought about the guy's name and his face for this first time in a long time. And I threw up. Even after 18 months, such a visceral reaction scared me. It never goes away, does it? It's a lifetime stain that can fade with time but never truly disappear.
