May Post: [Review] TOKIO 1718 Album + a bit of concert DVD

May 09, 2013 10:56

I know it's late~ but the DVD just came out (which also late) so I would try to put my thought on this..

The long awaited TOKIO album *ugly sobs*. Was about 5 years apart from the mini album, Sugar and 7 years from Harvest. Overall, it's a great great great album and has pushed 5Ahead from the top of my favorite TOKIO album (my ultimate favorite is TOK10, tho, but it's a whole different level). The new songs are composed, written and - several of them - arranged by the members which makes it more hadJKHFKLAJSHLFAJSHL album.. The package, is cute with photoshot and recording footage as a bonus in LE version.

1. archive
Written, composed, arranged by Nagase Tomoya
OMG! Asks me what is the manliest manliest manliest song of Johnnys ever, I will answer archive in a heartbeat. Seriously, this is perhaps Nagase's best work so far. He made this with Jumbo in mind.. the cute Jumbo produce this kind of soooooong.. aaaaah..

2. advance
A single song.. It was very fun to listen to, but you'll get bored of it...

3. ... as one
Written by Yamaguchi Tatsuya; Composed by Kokubun Taichi
My favorite track in the album. It's a very fun and uplifting song. I loooooove the intro so much! The guitar riff, then the bass and organ, and the drum entered.. I aaaalways this kind of.. what is this called? style? arrangement? and the chorus at the back.. *sigh* I didn't realize that it was English until I read the lyric.. Oh five souls in one body yeah....

4. Amagasa
Should I start to flail about this song again? Are you sure? OK, This song is a pure perfection. Definitely on the top of Titan's Best Songs of all time which I will listen to til the day I died. Written and composed by Shiina Ringo and arranged by Tokyo Jihen I mean, how cool was that? A Johnnys group's song, produced by one of the best Rock/Alternative/anything goes Band in Japan? Huh? huh?? Ok, I will stop here...

5. Haruka
The down part of the album. Haruka is a single song, which pretty much a disappointment for me. The song is boriiiiing. I rather put Everlasting here instead of Haruka.

6. Autumn
Written and composed by Matsuoka Masahiro
How do you describe Mabo by a song? The answer is, Autumn.. This song is flashy, classy, old, mature and have a mafia/gangster/yakuza feel in it (???). I usually annoyed by Mabo voice, but he pretty much nails the song.

7. More
Written, composed by Joushima Shigeru
*standing ovation* we've listen to his sweet pop songs, and his rockish style, and we know that he intended to make TOKIO a V-Key band before and now, he's making a jazz/funk song... hold your breath... With full English lyric! Dammit Leader!!!! This is my second favorite in the album. And the English was not your usual simple English, but some more sophisticated (or rather unusual to be use in Japanaese songs) words like Let me mutter slightly now, cos silent gives consent... Leader.. Leader... Leader... More and More and More...

8. Low Speed
Collaboration between Nagase, Mabo and Leader
This is the usual TOKIO song.. Pretty much like Get Your Dream and all sorts. If I wasn't mistaken, it's a song that Mabo have since he's 16? So that's why it's sounds rather youngish.

9. Haneda Kukou No Kiseki
Another single song.. and i loooove it. Mabo and Yoko's dorama soundtrack. Written and composed by Yokoyama Ken from crazy Ken band (the one who sang Tiger & Dragon).

10. HOPE
The string arrangement for Kibou I looooove this one.

11. KIBOU
Another single song.. This one is Haneda's B side. Which pretty much played in every music shows by the end of 2012 and resulting in a wave of hatred towards the song..

12. Miageta Ryusei
More single song. This also from Mabo's dorama. I usually don't really like TOKIO's slower songs, but this one is one of my favorite.. The dorama kinda sucks tho.

13. Taiyou no Sabaku Bara
Soundtrack of Karei Naru Spy, Nagase's dorama. It's another boring song from them, and I rather put Subeki Koto, the B-side, rathern than this.

14. Sometimes
Written, composed by Nagase Tomoya
Another powerful song from Nagase. Different from archive, this one is more like that one song that will moves you. I don't really like it straight away, but this song is growing on me. And after the performance in the concert, this one just blew me away. The emotion, the song, the music.. *sigh*

15. The Course of Life
Written, Composed by Kokubun Taichi
Somehow, after all those emotion, music, and passion, I started losing this song.. It's not a very powerful song, and not that catchy either.. It's a good song nonetheles, but too calm compared to the others.

16. NaNaNaNa Taiyou Nante Irane
Unubore Deka's soundtrack,a single song. and a really fun one too. And I love Toma as the PV model. And I love Unubore Deka, and I love the fact that Koki joined up at PLUS concert, rapping on this song. And we didn't seems to need the sun anyway.. <3

17. Jiyuu Nana No Motto Niwa
Written by Joushima Shigeru Composed by Kokubun Taichi
The conclusion of the album. Under the name of freedom of under the name of 17, depends on how do you want to read them. It's a very pretty song. second favorite song in the album, along with More. Seriously, just put Tachi and Leader to make music and you will get magic!

With that good material, you'll definitely hope for great concert too, right? Yep! You're right! The concert is greaaaaaaaaaaaat! I don't have any slightlest ccomplain about the concert. By I surely dissappointed with the concert DVD. Seriously.. Seriously, J-Storm, you sucks!
I didn't buy the DVD because it's friggin' expensive! and only got one disc, and no bonus footage and no MC part and packed with cheap ass packaging.. Seriously! Man... I've been overindulged with Teichiku's release for too long! then they got this one! DISSAPOINTING!

review, j-storm sucks-donkey-balls, 1718, ranting, tokio
