Thank you. Kyuhyun stood still with his feet closed, supporting his 300 pounds body, awaiting the final call from the 3 judges before him.
Kyuhyun caught the apologetic smile from one of the female judges and he immediately knew the result, which was further confirmed by the red light that was shown with the word FAIL.
Being a singer has always been Kyuhyun's dream since he was in high school. Even though people doubt him, laugh at him and insult him for having such an absurd dream given his size, Kyuhyun still stayed optimistic and work hard because of his pillar of support. Sungmin.
Unlike Kyuhyun, Sungmin was slim, small and well-liked by everyone. Crowned as the most perfect girl in high school, she had such a huge group of suitors who would present her with all kinds of gifts everyday. However, unlike all typical love story where Miss Perfect gets together with Mr Perfect, Sungmin chose Kyuhyun - someone who was ugly in everyone's eyes but perfect in Sungmin's eyes.
Being an introvert due to the lack of confidence since young, Kyuhyun never dared to show his love for Sungmin. So to say that it was the biggest and most pleasant surprise in Kyuhyun's life when Sungmin confessed to him wouldn't be an exaggeration. He was more than willing to accept Sungmin but he never asked her why she chose him because all that matters to him was being with Sungmin, the love of his life.
Through the 5 years they were together, Sungmin changed Kyuhyun. With the constant encouragement and love Sungmin showered over Kyuhyun, he became more optimistic and regained his confidence in pursuing his dreams.
"I failed, Min" Kyuhyun said while hugging Sungmin after he came out from the audition room.
Sungmin pulled away from the hug, looked into Kyuhyun's eyes and smiled "It's their loss, they didn't realise how good you are. You're the best singer I've known and I'm sure we will be able to find someone who can appreciate your voice."
"I found you, and that's already the best blessing one can have. Let's go for lunch, I'm hungry!" Kyuhyun smiled and gave Sungmin a peck on her forehead.
"Okiedorkie Kyubear! But I need to use the washroom first, wait for me here alright~"
"Remember that participant we saw just now, Cho Kyuhyun I think."
"You mean the fat one? He's really good. Nice voice but too fat, not worth grooming."
"Yeah, such a pity."
Sungmin heard the full conversation while being in the cubicle. Normally, she would immediately reprimand these people because she hates it when people judged her Kyuhyun based on his size, neglecting his personality and voice. But this time, she held back. This is the harsh truth she has to accept, the fact that society always judge and it's near impossible to change that. She realised it would be near impossible for Kyuhyun to fulfill his dreams and the only way is to make Kyuhyun slim down to a socially accepted size, so that people, more importantly, producers will be willing to give Kyuhyun a chance.
That night, Sungmin couldn't sleep at all. She had an idea in mind which she knew will definitely be a success, it was the fastest and only possible way but clearly not the most pleasant one. But she knew it would be the best for Kyuhyun, so that he can fulfill his dream.
"Kyu, can we talk?"
"Yup sure, what's wrong baby?" Kyuhyun replied, still munching on the packet of chips he was holding onto.
"I'm in love with someone else. I'm sorry."
"Hahahs! Min, it's not April's Fool~ Don't play such a prank on me!"
Sungmin looked into Kyuhyun's eyes "I'm serious."
Silence.
"It's him" Sungmin showed Kyuhyun a photo of Donghae and her.
"What's the reason? Because he's more good-looking than me? Slimmer than me? I thought you didn't mind about my physical appearance all along. I thought you accepted me for who I am!!" Kyuhyun said as he ran out of Sungmin's house, slamming the door hard, leaving a teary Sungmin at the same spot. Although she was heart-broken, a bigger part of her still hoped her plan worked.
2 years later...
"2013 MAMA Album of the year goes to......Cho Kyuhyun with his debut album 'Hate' !" Sungmin sat comfortably on the couch at home, munching on her favourite popcorns and jumped in joy when she heard his boyfriend ex-boyfriend won the award. To say that she never regret her decision would be a lie, but at least she is genuinely happy for Kyuhyun, seeing that he is able to receive recognition for his perfect voice and hard work. And most importantly, for fulfilling his dream.
"Hyukkie, what's good here? I'm hungry!"
"Hmm, I'm not sure as well. I saw the review on an online magazine and it's said to be really good and high-class, so I thought we should come here and celebrate your promotion."
"Hee, you're the best!"
"Of course, we're best friends since kindergarten! Hurry, let's order something~"
While enjoying their food, Sungmin felt a hand on her shoulder and when she turned around, her eyes widened in shock. That smell he spots, that look in his eyes, that smirk.
"Remember me?"
"Yes, Kyuhyun."
"Haven't seen you in a long time and I'm surprised that you could still recognised me, given that I've slimed down so much. Hi Hyuk. Anyway, where's your boyfriend?" He directed the question back at Sungmin.
"Boyfriend?" Hyuk asked with a confused look.
"Oh, you mean Donghae? He's working overtime tonight, that's why he's not around. I see that you have other friends around, don't keep them waiting. We'll talk some other time." Sungmin smiled, hoping Kyuhyun would leave as soon as possible.
"Alright, keep in contact and introduce your boyfriend to me some other day." Kyuhyun gave both Sungmin and Hyuk his name card before leaving.
"Min, he has already achieved his dream now. Why do you still want to lie to him? He should know the truth."
"No, Hyukkie. There isn't a need for him to know the truth. He is perfectly fine now and I am as well, so just let it go."
"But Min, you're not happy at all and I can tell that you still love him very much. And he has the right to know the truth."
"Let's not talk about this, we're here to celebrate my promotion. It should be happy, let's continue eating." Sungmin gave a Hyuk a smile and continue eating, but Hyuk could feel the sadness behind that fake smile.
"Hyukkie, let's go to the bar downtown. I'm craving for some good cocktails."
That night, Sungmin was beyond drunk, which was precisely her intention for coming down to the bar - to forgot all her troubles, specifically Kyuhyun.
Seeing that Sungmin was way beyond drunk (probably the worst Hyuk has seen in their 10 years of friendship), she knew it was definitely because of their previous meeting with Kyuhyun. Thus, she decided she should help her friend.
"Hi, is this Kyuhyun?"
"Yup, you are?"
"I'm Hyuk. Sungmin and I are at the "Sapphire Bar", which is one street down the previous restaurant we met. She's way beyond drunk now and I don't think I have the strength to carry her home. Do you mind coming down to help? Sorry to trouble!"
"Yup, no problem. Will be down in 5 minutes. Do keep her safe."
"Why is she so drunk? I don't remember her drinking so much last time. Quarreled with her boyfriend?" Kyuhyun asked Hyuk while carrying Sungmin on his back, making their way towards his car.
"Actually, Sungmin doesn't have any boyfriend after you guys broke up."
"Huh? I thought she was with that Donghae guy? He was the reason we broke up, she even showed me their photo."
"It was a lie. He's just a friend." Kyuhyun stopped and looked at Hyuk in dismay.
"It was Sungmin's plan to make you slim down. She told me she overheard the judges saying that you weren't able to pass the audition due to your physical appearance despite having a good voice. Therefore, Sungmin thought of this stupid reason to break up with you so that you would motivate yourself to slim down. She said it's only through this way that you can fulfill your dreams and be a singer."
Kyuhyun couldn't believe what he heard. He had always thought Sungmin was the one who betrayed him and he even tried to hate her, but he just couldn't because he loved her so much.
"So...so she still loves me?"
"Yes, very much. She had gone through enough suffering after you left, forgive her and treat her well, alright?"
"Yes, I will." Kyuhyun promised.
After sending Hyuk home, Kyuhyun drove Sungmin back home and retrieve her keys to enter her house. He piggy-backed Sungmin into her apartment and to her room, gently placing her on her bed. When he was about to leave, Sungmin let out a soft whimper which made Kyuhyun turned around. "Kyubear, hug~"
Knowing that Sungmin was calling for him, he smiled and went forward, wanting to hug Sungmin who was asleep. However, Sungmin let go of Kyuhyun and whined, saying it wasn't her Kyubear.
Sungmin fidgeted around and caught hold of the huge teddy bear that was lying on the bed. She hugged it tightly, drifting off to sleep with a smile across her face.
Kyuhyun's heart ache at the sight before him. He could tell that Sungmin still missed and loved the old Kyuhyun who was imperfect and he felt guilty for accusing Sungmin in the past. He knew he got to make it up to Sungmin.
The next day, Sungmin woke up with a really bad hangover from the previous night. After lazing around in bed, she took a bath, hoping to reduce the headache she was having.
Dressed in a shirt that barely covered her thighs, Sungmin went to the living room in search for something to eat but she was shocked by the figure in her kitchen.
"Just woke up? Breakfast will be ready soon!" he turned around and said to Sungmin, who was still in shock.
"What are you doing here? And how did you get in?" Sungmin managed to utter those words.
Kyuhyun approached Sungmin with a smirk.
He trapped Sungmin between him and the wall before answering "Because someone got herself drunk last night and I had to carry her home."
"But I was with Hyukkie, not you."
"She called me since she couldn't carry you home, and thanks to her, I already knew the truth."
"Truth?" "Wait, she...she told you?"
Kyuhyun smiled and gave Sungmin a kiss on her lips. "Don't push me away anymore, I love you. You're more important than my dream."
