[video] oo8. against all reason, man flies

[The video flickers on, and you have a very lovely view of a pair of goggles, hung askew. There is a moment in which fingers dance over what looks to be a laptop keyboard just by the corner of the screen. Tapping noises ensue as the camera slowly turns mechanically to its owner, who happens to be looking most preoccupied with whatever they are ( Read more... )

needs a research assistant, baww denial, haven't posted in a long time, hiringgggg, robotics ftw, fail origami, !video, automated cameras, hiring hiring hiring, needs more tags, stupid company policies, tsun tsun tsundere tsun, she's worried; she really is, this is just an excuse for cr, filter: estelle, orgami lol what is that, taking mind over matter, needs a life, she really fails at this

[Techie side of Jensen is pinged. He knows when to appreciate someone's work whether it's got to do with hardware or software.]

You made that on your own? I've got to hand it to you if you did, I'm pretty impressed. What else do you have planned for it?

He's mainly going to be used for surveillance purposes, but I think I can adjust a model for aircraft use. [Hm.] Either way, he will be able to send feedback to us about areas of this world which we won't be able to see for ourselves.

Ever been past the desert? Might be a good idea to send it out there to see what else is around if you haven't. And those tunnels would probably be a good idea to search too if you could get it past the police's security.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind when I put him together. Problem is though, we don't have an idea on how far out the desert stretches, or how deep the tunnels are. Batteries aren't limitless, and I'm not willing to send him out without a way to retrieve him.

How about experimenting on how long the batteries will last? As soon as you know that, you could probably add some code to the program for it to return when half of it has been depleted.

You know, that's not a half-bad idea. Originally, I was toying with the idea of using the dreamberry itself as the power source, since dream energy doesn't deplete, or if it does deplete, is likely being recharged by the environment itself. The only problem with that is the fact that the dreamberry always comes back to its owner after a set period of time, which renders the whole expedition moot.

If I can somehow harness dream energy, I'll have an unlimited power source for exploration purposes. On the other hand, for the time being, it's possible to just slowly gauge the distance needed to cover the desert and adjust battery levels accordingly.

Can't say I know too much about dream energy at this point. But considering it's still pretty much at its experimental stages, it might be better to stick with whatever batteries are available. You could say that it's your control set-up then fiddle with things later.

Or if you really want to make it last, you could keep the camera's settings low and see how long it takes from there.

Not a viable option. I know I'm going to send out more than just a single run of it, but I can't chance the low camera quality missing out on something possible important out there. Every moment needs to be documented, even if it shortens battery life.

Sounds like you'll really have to experiment with it on the best quality then. Got any idea what you're going to find out there, anyway?

I'm not optimistic enough to think that an exit will make itself known in the middle of the desert. But... human bones, maybe. Bits and pieces that the monsters haven't eaten yet. Monsters -- but who knows what's out there.

What I'm really expecting is an end to the desert. I'm interested in what's at that hypothetical 'end'.

Still helps to keep an open-mind. You might even stumble upon an exit when you least expect it.

Well, If you need any help with coding some programs, I might be able to lend a hand.

Yeah? How good are you?

Damn good if you ask me. I used to make my own programs whenever I had the time to and did hacking jobs every once in a while for work.

Then, you shouldn't mind doing a few simulations. I want to see just how good 'damn good' is.

Sure, throw whatever you've got at me. I'm sure I could handle it.

We'll see about that.

[A few clicks of her keyboard, and the video fades out entirely, leaving on the sound of furious typing. ... approximately ten minutes later, black and white text show up on the dreamberry.

Medium level hacking required for this particular simulation. Once he gets past that one, there is another one on the other side that requires a bit of creative thinking on loopholes that will make it incredibly easy. Behind that one is another one which is seemingly easy in difficulty, though is actually really annoying if you don't got at it the right way.

idk anything about hacking /handwaves forever sob]
