When Jin woke up from the phone call, he thought about not answering on it. He thought about leaving his phone on the table, turn his back to it and keep sleeping. And that’s exactly what he did. When the ring tone never ended, Jin let out a rough groan, turning to his phone, grabbing it, noticing it was Josh, one of his dance choreographers, Jin let out a deep sigh, pressing the ‘OK’ and placing the phone on his ear. What could possibly be so important about a dance move that he should call Jin at 4am, when he had to wake up in three hours anyway?
“What the actual fuck, dude?”
“Jin? You awake? Um- I don’t know how to tell you this..”
Jin didn’t realize the seriousness in his friend’s voice. “Just spill it Josh. What? You broke the iPod I bought you? No? You slept with someone from the crew? That’s okay man. Now-”
“Jin listen to me, everything’s not okay.”
“I’m not a therapist dude.. Besides-”
“Would you listen!? Turn your TV on, right now!” When Josh started yelling at him, Jin realized that everything wasn’t really okay. He sat up, messed his hair a bit and reached for his remote. “Is it on?”
“Just putting it on, hold your horses, man.” Jin finally found his remote as he started to actually see something in his pitch black room. He pressed it on, and as soon as he did, he saw a woman standing, photos of something Jin didn’t quite get. Something huge was happening on the news.
“-sweeping away everything in it’s path. A massive wall of water that roses high at thirty feets swallowing up parts of Japan.”
Jin’s jaw dropped wide open, and his eyes started to slowly widen as his lips shivered the way he couldn’t control. There was a tsunami in Japan. After the woman stopped talking, which from Jin caught only a small glimpse, video clips started to flow on his TV filled with water breaking everything, people screaming for help, people crying. Jin wasn’t sure whether his eyes were dry or he was crying. He hang up on Josh and dialled certain number right away. After not getting an answer for couple of seconds, Jin’s breath started to get harder. “Come on, Kazu. Pick up, pick up.”
When the answer never came, Jin hang up, and dialled the same number again. He repeated his action for so many times he lost the count. “Damned!” he groaned and threw the phone to his bed, as he started to walk around the room. What if something had happened to Kazuya, or anyone? He ran to his phone and hurried to call his parents.
In the end he got an answer from everyone else but Kazuya. He talked to his parents, his brother, to Ryo, to Pi, to Yu, to everyone in KAT-TUN except Kazuya. Everyone except Kazuya were answering and telling him they were okay. Jin even tried calling to Kazuya’s parents but there was no answer either.
Suddenly panic hit him, and he started waking around the room again, starting to toss his stuff on his bed. He needed to get his ass to Japan, he needed to help, he needed to save Kazuya, he needed to.. Jin tripped on some clothes on the floor, hitting his shoulder to his bed. “Fuck!” he half yelled and half sobbed. He sat, letting tears come. Why was this happening?
The next hour and half were the worst of Jin’s life. In the end he didn’t move from that spot, he realized there’s nothing he could do and the water had filled all the airplanes so there was no way to get in Japan in the first place.
When he heard his ring tone, his heart skipped a beat. “Kazu?” He actually hoped out loud, and reached for his phone to find ‘Pi’ as the ID. “Hey, you okay?” Jin said after clearing his throat, trying to hide his obvious crying scene.
“Jin, I’m fine. We’re all fine. There’s no harm with any of Johnny’s.”
A rock was rolled from his heart. The relief that hit him was huge. “That means-”
“Yeah, Kazuya’s okay. He’s at the sport centre where’s pretty much everyone from that area. He’s there with his parents who are also okay, by the way. He gave a number you can call to. It’shis dad’s work number or something, okay?” After a small pause, Pi continued. “Jin, you there?”
Jin cleared his throat. The tears of pure happiness rolled on his cheek as Jin smiled. “Yeah, yeah. Thank God.” he sighed then. Jin wrote the number down, and lost the count of the times he thanked Pi.
After his talk with Pi, Jin didn’t waste a second to dial the number Pi gave him. He could feel the smile appearing to his face when he heard Kazuya’s soft voice answering on the other line. “Jin?”
“Oh my God, baby. Tell me you’re okay.” Jin said, even though he was just told Kazuya was fine.
“I’m fine, I lost my phone.”
“It’s okay. I’m just happy you’re okay.” Jin said, lowering his body on the floor. He could feel his heart beat getting easier with every second he heard Kazuya’s voice. “I love you so much.”
“I know.” Jin heard Kazuya saying and knew he couldn’t say the words back because he was probably surrounded by different people. “Are your parents fine?”
“Yeah, talked to them about an hour ago. They’re fine. Reio’s also fine.” Jin said then. It was sweet that Kazuya cared about his parents even though he was in the very same situation.
“That’s good.”
“I was so afraid something had happened to you when you didn’t answer, I seriously cried here!” Jin laughed softly in the phone.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, babe. It’s not your fault.” Jin smiled, closing his eyes. “I wish I could be there.” he wanted to be there for everyone, for Kazuya, for his family, for his friends.
“I’m glad you’re not.” Kazuya said then, making Jin pout even though he knew why. “I wouldn’t be able to handle the feeling of knowing something might have happened to you.”
“Hey, welcome to my shoes at the moment!” Jin told him. “I swear if something would have happened to you, I would’ve gone to knock the doors of the dude downstairs and fucking kill him.”
“I don’t get your logic.” Jin heard Kazuya chuckling and it was enough. That told him he wasn’t faking anything, and he really was okay. With a smile, Jin turned around to lay on his stomach.
“Well for one, he’s fucking annoying cunt. That’s enough of a reason.” Jin said then, hearing someone talking to Kazuya n the other line.
“Jin, I have to go now. I call you in few hours, okay?”
Jin closed his eyes again, wanting to tell Kazuya to tell everyone to screw off and keep talking to him. “Yeah, okay.” he said instead and couldn’t rip off the smile on his face. “I love you, Kazuya.”
After a small silence, Jin was ready to hang up thinking maybe Kazuya just gave the phone to someone, as he heard some voice’s on the other line. “I love you too.” he heard instead after a moment of silence. From that moment on, Jin knew, he wouldn’t do anything but sit next to his phone for the next 24 hours.
THE END
