Yeah, ok, I haven't posted in a long time. My life has been CRAZY! Sorry. I suppose I should let the world know what's going on, though, ‘specially since my CRAZY life has meant that I haven't talked to non-school friends much in the past few weeks.
My last month of life, in fast forward review:
Some time in March, I forget exactly when, I traveled into New York City, where I traveled around with Joe, who picked up playbills for every new Broadway show (he already has every other playbill). Then we rushed back to Carnegie Hall, were we were scheduled to perform (in a big thing where a ton of people from a ton of schools come). Of course, we were scheduled to close the show, which meant we were stuck backstage for about four hours, and then went out and watched a ton of other people perform. While we were backstage, Joe's voice started to go. Then he ended up with a fever. But the show had to go on.... despite the fact that he was supposed to be singing a solo.
So we watched other groups, some really awesome, and some... not so awesome. There were these interpretive dancers that did an amazing job. There was also this huge, huge choir that sang really hard, classical stuff--and must not have done a good job, because they put me to sleep. By the time they were done, the audience had literally shrunk to half its original size. They also sang no songs in English... which stunk. My mom was in the audience, but she, fluent in Spanish, thought that their Spanish song was in some African language until the very end.
Then we, of course, closed the show with some high energy stuff. Since my voice "is exactly the same" as Joe's, I sang his solo, while he lip-synched it. Hehehe, that was pretty tricky of us, no?
Next week, I realized that I had committed to preaching in church. I started to panic. Meanwhile, an announcement was made at a Revolution (the play I'm in) rehearsal--the directors have applied for a few awards. So basically, we have four shows, and during a random show some judges will come and watch. I have no understudy--I'm on all four nights. No pressure, right? If we lose, well, nothing much happens, but if we win, we are the original cast of the award winning musical, and will probably perform next year in a little mini-tour thing.
So, I after calming down, I wrote my sermon (well, that's the short version of that story, anyway), and on the Saturday before I was to preach it, I was busy as well. I traveled into Bridgeport to see Godspell, and it was absolutely fantastic, and in my opinion Joe's best performance yet--he simply carried the entire show. (sliding around on the stage with ease was an awesome touch--though, Joe, you might want to land on both feet evenly, next time you jump from something taller than you are). Actually, seeing Godspell has made me work harder on my own show (I can't let Joe be a better actor than me for any longer than necessary!) Then I rushed back to Norwalk so that I could perform in the two hardest musical numbers from Revolution at a fundraiser thing. My voice cracked a little (i.e., a lot), but apparently only the directors really noticed, and my solo song has been dropped a half-step, making it much, much easier to sing (holding a g for three measures was tough, especially since I'm moving around a lot!). And, besides, in the next song, someone else messed up a few words, so we made each other feel better. Yay! By the time we actually have the show, these songs should be solid.
I got home really late, which I was told not to do, because I needed sleep. Oh well. That Sunday was Youth Sunday, and my sermon was given, and people seemed to like it, mostly. Mr. Johnson wrote me a whole email after he read it, too, which made me really happy! That next Friday, in fact, was Johnson Day, and if you're curious about what that means, ask my brother for his short story of the same name. Anyway, right after the church service ended, I ran back over for yet another play rehearsal. Wee!
Two weeks of homework and school projects and rehearsals later (interspersed with Oblivion, for all you video gamers out there), I got the chance to go to a Tae Kwon Do Seminar taught by Mr. Wadley, an almost 7th degree black belt from Texas (he’s testing in two weeks). That was this morning. The class was two hours of pure fun, though it was also extremely tiring. We had leap frog races, speed-kicking tournaments, the most insanely sadistic jumping-jacks ever, flag-sparring (it’s complicated, but awesome!) and so much more! It was a great opportunity to meet an amazing martial artist. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do what many of the kids were doing, and get my belt signed, because black marker doesn’t show on a black belt…. Oh well.
And that leads me to now-I am tired, really, really hungry, and, um, tired. But if someone is going to send me an email at 2:00 AM, I figured I can write something in return. I’ll try to write more frequently… we’ll see what happens.
By the way, if anyone’s really bored, apply for beta to Google’s page maker. I got accepted into the beta program a few weeks ago, and while the tools are nowhere near as powerful as Dreamweaver, they’re really easy to pick up, and fun to fool around with.
