World Autism Day

Apr 02, 2012 17:51

Reblogged from my friend ncischick09's LJ...

Newest CDC numbers:  1 in 88 children.  1 in 54 boys.
More affected than all other childhood diseases...combined.
The least funding for research/treatments.

Here's the deal:
If you don't already know someone/a family affected by Autism, you soon will.  If you don't already think that the economy is bad, crime is high, and the unemployment rate is ridiculous, you soon will.  If you don't think all of the current victims of bullying don't have the numbers to band together and stand up for themselves, you soon will.

In 20 years, these children will be adults.  What will our society look like then?  If that is not enough motivation for those unaffected by the spectrum to become involved and DO SOMETHING, I don't know what is.

Please wear blue today.  Please look up more information on autism.  Please reach out and see how you can help.  And for the love of God, the next time you see a child "misbehaving" in public, stop and think before you judge.

Thank you from one more autistic family.

I know that I am woefully under educated when it comes to autism - it would do us all good to learn more about this disease, the way it manifests in children and adults and what is being done in the way of treatment and prevention - because if those numbers hold true, we all soon will know someone affected by autism.
