I just got my beloved old guitar back from
this excellent craftsman. He fixed a very nasty back crack so well that it's nearly invisible to both sight and touch, glued up a smaller crack in the bridge, dressed the frets and the fingerboard, and did a lovely setup that left it playing better than it had in years.
The only other person I've trusted to do major work on this guitar was
the luthier who built it. Before I found Evan, I was seriously considering buying it a seat on the plane when we fly down to Florida in August. That may sound obsessive if you don't know this guitar's history; Augie considered it to be one of the best he'd ever built, and it's almost as old as I am. I paid $500 for it in the early 90s, which was about a fifth of what it was worth even back then, and three other people tried to buy it while Augie was carrying it to the back of the shop to set it up for me. It's a stunning little guitar, and sentimental value aside, it's quite literally irreplacable.
(It's a highly customized version of the DR-11, if you're curious and poking around his website.)
And it's back in working condition, and I'm discovering that I can indeed still play it, even after a hiatus of several years, and this makes me very happy.
