The truck checked out fine and the leaking fuel tank has been replaced, so we're going out to Long Island on Thursday to close the deal on that. The trailer won't be gone over for another week or two, but we've had a preliminary inspection done and it appears to be sound, so I'm not too worried. Even if we just end up having to buy a different trailer for some unforeseen reason, we're still getting a good deal on the truck, so it should all be fine.
So, one step closer. I still have moments when it all seems slightly unreal, but it's becoming more and more obvious that yes, we really ARE going to do this fantastically insane thing.
Juggling all the different parts of it is stressful, but I think that will be a lot better once Amy's not working full-time; right now I'm taking most of the burden of packing and getting rid of things, and piled on top of my usual workload and my share of the housework, it's just too much for me. I've been compromising by not doing the housework -- always the first thing to go when I'm under stress, and thank gawd for the dishwasher and the fact that I stuffed the chest freezer full of soups and burrito filling and lentil burgers this summer -- but the chaos is starting to make me twitchy. Bad things happen when I get twitchy.
Having the truck right away will be helpful, I have to admit. Public transit is a very good thing, and while we may trade the truck in on a small car once we settle in California, we both intend to keep using public transit and our bikes as our primary means of transportation. On the other hand, there are times when the NYC subway system is just a royal pain in the ass, and I won't be at all unhappy to have a vehicle for our last month here.
I'm doing fine, by the way; my visit to the dentist yesterday was uneventful, and it was determined that I escaped with nothing worse than a few microfractures and two slightly loose teeth, all of which should heal up just fine on their own. (Unless I'm one of the rare cases in which there's no visible damage at the time of the accident but the teeth die off completely anywhere from six months to five years later, and we won't know if that's happening until my teeth spontaneously start to hurt and/or fall out. Yay.) My knee is still not so much about the walking, and we don't even discuss the scabby mess that is the lower half of my face, but I'm healing well enough, and I should be back to normal by the end of the week.
Amy won't be home until late tonight, so I'm taking advantage of her absence to get caught up on some of the work I wasn't able to do yesterday. Which means that really, I should put down the computer and get back to the workbench, because those bracelets aren't going to make themselves. Although it would be a neat trick if they did.
