Wow, has it only been three days?
We already have seedlings coming up! Our two broccolis and the pickle cucumbers have broken through the dirt and are growing!!
The broccoli says 10-14 days to germination, and 7-14 days for the pickle cucumber. It doesn't matter if the seeds weren't technically planted deep enough, because in a miniature greenhouse it's not like they'll get disturbed greatly before they get transplanted.
Both of these seed packets were bought this year, so that may account for why they're coming up so soon.
The pickle cucumbers will be -- surprisingly enough -- turned into homemade dill pickles. Stuff 'em in a jar with some dill and garlic and vinegar, seal it up, and let it sit. (Specific recipes will come when it's closer to the actual harvest time). A couple jars of thin-sliced for sammiches, quarter-sliced for snacking, and other variants can work for pickle relish and other yummies.
The broccoli will likely be used fresh, and then possibly frozen for use later in the year. Boy do I wish I had a chest freezer -- it would be so easy to grow a crapton of everything and freeze it for year-round use! I've found broccoli to be one of my favorite things in stir-fry -- the flower heads soak up the sauces and make it soooo tasty...
We have (roughly) nine grams of green bell pepper seeds, three grams of orange bell peppers , two grams of poblano , a gram and change of red bell pepper, and one gram each of jalapeno and yellow bell pepper. I'm keeping them in tiny plastic bags, with a tag identifying the seed and about when it was harvested. Eventually I'll want to add a rough estimate of starting times, planting depth, germination, and harvest.
