It's been a long, long time since I've bored you all with knitting blather, soooo...
I'm almost done with my second Schoolmarm vest. The one I'm crocheting right now doesn't have pictures yet, but it's pretty much going to look like this one, only in a brownish orange color. It's also made out of acrylic, not wool, so I can wear it to a LARP (specifically, to Sharded) and not feel like I want to freak out if it gets near water or dirt. In fact, I won't mind if the orange one gets dirty at all, because it's not like Silence really has much opportunity to clean things.
I have to attach the tops of the shoulders, and then I get to do the edgings. That's what I'm flaking on, and I don't know why. The first time I made this, it went by like a snap. Maybe it's because I was at SMF in Seattle and didn't really have the desire to start in on an entirely different section right then, I dunno. I also had some Opal Harry Potter sock yarn burning a hole in my suitcase, waiting to be turned into a beret for my hed.
I think I'm going to force myself to finish this FIRST, before moving on to one of the projects below. I have a really hard time finishing projects . . . I remembered saying I wanted to have it done by the next Sharded game I went to, and since I had to miss this month's (BOOOOO) I can aim for the June event.
The next thing I'm seriously considering is
Knitty's Isabella, a sleeveless springtimey shirt made from cotton fingering-weight yarn. I managed to pick up some yarn seconds at the store in Clinton for two bucks, which is at MOST half the normal cost. I didn't care about the minor mis-dyes in the skeins, because frankly I think it makes it look neat.
I don't really care for seaming, but I'll suck it up in this case because the cotton could really use the support to keep from stretching. I loathe the idea of sewing the picot hem after finishing, so I'm just going to knit it as I go. The shoulders aren't getting knitted picot edging AT ALL, because those would -have- to be sewn, and no way. Instead I'm going to come up with some kind of crochet thing to add (oh god, I'm getting crochet on my knitting!). How fancy it becomes really depends on how adventurous I feel, what decent patterns I can come up with, and how much yarn I have left. Hopefully not too much.
I could also finish my Square Cake by sewing the bottom (I think I didn't start it in the round, but I can't remember at this point X.X) and blocking the bastard, then heading out to JoAnn and getting some nice fabric for a lining. One of the FirstSat girls that I know from Ravelry showed me how stupid easy it was to sew a lining into a knitted thing, so imma do that and then I can use it for ritual like I want to.
I could also finish my one-skein wonder shrug, which is still soaking up needle space, my Silence coat (which I shouldn't need again until winter, but it can't hurt), maybe head to the yarn store and get some help sewing together the curtain for R's mother (FINALLY)... or suck it up and finish my mother's one-year-overdue shrug. Oh fuck, I forgot to call her for Mother's Day.
Mega-Cryptic Sekrit Projekt: No pix. I want to start this, but the last thing I want to do is screw it up. I've been told by Soulbabe (another Raveler) that she'd happily help me get it going. I'll also use another idea put to me by someone at the May FS gathering and do some absconding. I'll have to put myself into the mindset that I may very very well have to frog this a couple times until I get the gauge just right. And pray I have enough yarn, which I bloody well should. It'll look SO GOOD if I can actually get it right! The matching bit to it is already done!
If I could get the right beads, I'd start in on
Knitty's Ice Queen, a laceweight cowl. I have tons of lace yarn and I realize now that I'm not a large-scale lace knitter, so I have to do something with the gobs of lace yarn I bought on a whim a couple years back. I have purple and green merino that I got from Knitpicks to choose from for the beaded version. I also bought some Malabrigo laceweight (afglkajfh) at the last FS gathering and I might have to do a non-beaded version to use that up, as the colorway I bought is insanely nice and autumn-ey. No pics of it yet, because I'm lazy as hell.
If you read this far, clearly you're a knitter. Go you.
